Job summary

Ochsner LSU Health System is seeking a 12-lead EKG technician to provide direct patient care during procedures, educate patients, and document results in patient records.

Must have a high school diploma, BLS certification, and strong computer and communication skills; flexible schedule including nights and weekends may be required. This role emphasizes accuracy in arrhythmia recognition, patient privacy, and safety in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, instruct, and educate patients on the EKG procedure.
  • Perform diagnostic 12-lead EKG tests and document results.

  • Protect patient privacy and confidentiality during procedures.

Job description

This job provides individualized, direct patient care of assigned patients by performing quality 12 Lead electrocardiograph (EKG) tests. Maintains the cleanliness and maintenance of EKG equipment. Performs all clerical duties dictated by leadership. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Certifications Required

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred

Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally. Strong interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of 12 Lead EKG tests. Ability to recognize arrhythmias accurately. Ability to work well under pressure, work independently, set priorities, and maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to work flexible schedule including nights, weekends, extended shifts, etc. Effective planning, judgment and decision making skills.
