Job Summary:

The EKG Technician is responsible for performing EKGs, as well as other tasks associated with an EKG.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.
  • DIAGNOSTICS: CLINICAL PRACTICE AND PATIENT CARE
  • Performs EKGs as ordered by all Providers (in-patient, out-patients)
  • Identifies patients by established policies that include the use of ID bands.
  • Reviews patient face sheets for accuracy and completeness.
  • Schedules and places Holter Monitor.
  • Responsible for carrying EKG pager during working hours and responding promptly to all pages.
  • Prioritizes patient care needs in the EKG department.
  • Assumes responsibility for the completion of workload during his/her shift.
  • Patients are promptly admitted for an exam with no more than a 15-minute wait past appointment time.
  • Prepares room before patient use and cleans room after each patient.
  • Maintains supplies to ensure adequate levels are always available.
  • Assists physicians/offices in obtaining reports in the system or printable copies, if requested of patient exams promptly and can answer questions regarding specific patients.
  • CLERICAL & QUALITY: COMMUNICATION AND PATIENT SAFETY
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and non-verbal communication techniques.
  • Directly addresses issues with the persons involved.
  • Assures issues are addressed through appropriate use of the chain of command.
  • Displays professional, positive perspective at all times, including when faced with difficult circumstances.
  • Develops an environment in which quality patient care can be delivered.
  • Test results/tracings are of appropriate technical quality without the need for additional
  • re-examination.
  • Tracks ordered EKGs that aren’t completed. Appropriately forwards records to management for review.
  • Keeps accurate daily error log.
  • Promptly responds to orders that are incorrectly entered or not performed and notify

appropriate department.

  • Identifies patient information errors and/or poor-quality EKGs and provides remediation.
  • Communicates written messages in an accurate, appropriate legible format.
  • OPERATIONAL / DOCUMENTATION / GENERAL DUTIES:
  • Assists front desk staff to ensure appropriate tests are ordered and recorded on Outpatient forms.
  • Acts as a resource to support staff as needed.
  • Assists with problem-solving and conflict resolution to maximize team performance.
  • Participates in aspects of care and unit activities with other personnel in order to meet patient needs and maximize team performance.
  • Assists other healthcare members in rendering patient care.
  • Effectively controls costs through economical use of supplies, linen, personnel, and equipment.
  • Maintains required licenses, certifications, and competencies, and completes annual compliance courses on time.
  • Supporting student learning is a shared responsibility. Every team member is expected to contribute to creating a welcoming environment and to actively assist students in their educational experience, regardless of their specific role.

Comp Range:

$18.62 - $25.64
