Job summary

TC Energy is seeking an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Measurement Technician to troubleshoot, maintain, and operate natural gas compressor station control systems and related equipment.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong problem solving and communication skills, capable of working with minimal supervision and handling field assignments during emergencies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry.
  • Thorough understanding of SWA and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of LOTO procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software.
  • Must be expert in Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC).

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor stations and related facilities.
  • Maintain power, PLCs, and process controls equipment.
  • Diagnose malfunctions using test equipment and tools.
  • Record data and maintain DOT auditable records.
  • SAP work orders; schedule with field personnel.
  • Attend to emergencies and call-out work.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC) Measurement Technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas compressor station control systems, measurement equipment, and other related facilities.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent problem solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor stations, meter stations, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses and fixtures, using hand and power tools
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and associated components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators, and oscilloscopes
  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start-up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizers, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment with test equipment such as a Hart Communicator and Fluke meter
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals, etc.) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use
  • Work closely with field personnel to schedule and properly route gas in the event of pipeline right of way maintenance or an emergency repair to maintain delivery to internal and external customers
  • Locate pipelines per the Illinois One Call center and perform valve maintenance
  • Perform and witness hydrostatic tests that assure material integrity for operation and installation of facilities
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP
  • Other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated work experience in a related industry
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software
  • Must be an expert in Electrical Instrumentation & Controls (EIC)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree to include courses in engine maintenance or electricity/electronics
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls
  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems
  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators
  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents
  • Experience on the Measurement side can be learned
This position requires candidates to:
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
