Job summary

Methanex-Corporatio is seeking an Electrical, Instrumentation & Analyzer (EIA) Technician to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate electrical and analyzer systems for safe and reliable plant operation.

The ideal candidate will show persistence in identifying root causes, taking ownership of tasks, and driving continuous improvement while advancing technical skills within the company. The role is full-time and on-site at our Texas facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Journeyman-level craft experience or equivalent.
• Certifications or training in electrical/instrumentation preferred.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain electrical, instrumentation, analyzer, and control equipment.
• Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on motors, MCCs, VFDs, field instrumentation, control valves, and PLC/DCS devices.
• Diagnose equipment failures and restore service.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and environmental personnel to ensure data accuracy and system performance.
• Install, test, and commission equipment following standards and procedures.
• Follow safety policies and participate in permit, lockout/tagout, and JSA activities.
• Document maintenance activities in the site maintenance management system.
• Pursue continuous training and technology updates.
• Support turnarounds, outages, startups, and commissioning as needed.

Position Summary

The Electrical, Instrumentation & Analyzer (EIA) Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and continuous improvement of electrical, instrumentation, and analyzer systems at the site, supporting safe and reliable operation. This is a full-time role that plays a critical part in maintaining plant availability, environmental compliance, and personnel safety.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and hands‑on problem solver who demonstrates persistence in identifying root causes, correcting failures, and driving long‑term improvements. This individual is expected to take ownership of assigned work, support operational excellence, and actively pursue continuous learning to grow technically and professionally within the company.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain plant electrical, instrumentation, analyzer, and control equipment in support of safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations.
• Perform preventive, predictive, corrective, and emergency maintenance on a wide range of systems, including:
  • Motors, motor controls, MCCs, VFDs, and low/medium voltage electrical equipment
  • Field instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, flow, and level devices
  • Control valves, positioners, actuators, and associated accessories
  • PLC/DCS‑connected devices and control system components
  • Process analyzers and sample conditioning systems
  • Gas detection, alarms, and other critical safety‑related instruments
• Diagnose equipment failures using sound troubleshooting methods and work systematically to restore equipment to service.
• Work with operations, engineering, and environmental personnel to ensure instrumentation and analyzer systems are functioning properly and providing accurate data.
• Install, test, and commission electrical, instrumentation, and analyzer equipment in accordance with plant standards, drawings, procedures, and applicable codes.
• Interpret and work from P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, one‑lines, motor control drawings, equipment manuals, cause‑and‑effect matrices, and technical procedures.
• Perform loop checks, functional tests, and verification of field devices and control circuits.
• Take a proactive approach to identifying maintenance improvement opportunities, recurring equipment issues, and reliability risks before they become larger problems.
• Assist in identifying opportunities to improve system design, maintainability, operability, and overall asset performance.
• Identify bad actors and recurring failures, then help suggest and implement permanent corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
• Support unit turnarounds, outages, start‑ups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities as needed.
• Execute all work in compliance with site safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in permitting, lockout/tagout, job safety analysis, and safe work planning activities.
• Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and professionalism in all work areas.
• Ensure maintenance activities are properly documented in the site maintenance management system.
• Follow management of change, documentation, and quality processes for repairs, modifications, and upgrades.
• Demonstrate persistence in troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues, including escalation and collaboration when needed.
• Partner with operations, engineering, planners, and other maintenance crafts to help plan and execute work.
• Contribute to root cause investigations, failure analyses, and corrective action development.
• Stay current on applicable technologies, standards, and best practices related to electrical, instrumentation, and analyzer systems.
• Actively pursue opportunities for technical development, certification, cross‑training, and professional growth within the organization.
• Interface and work with third parties as needed to solve problems, troubleshoot issues, and perform onsite and offsite maintenance.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Experience, and/or Training

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in chemical, petrochemical, refining, gas processing, fertilizer, ammonia, methanol, or other continuous process industries preferred.
• Journeyman‑level craft experience or equivalent demonstrated field capability.
• Relevant certifications or training in electrical/instrumentation disciplines preferred.
• Knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
• 5+ years of industrial electrical, instrumentation, and/or analyzer maintenance required.
• 10+ years of industrial electrical, instrumentation, and/or analyzer maintenance preferred.

• Good field experience.
• Knowledge of experience using SAP is desired.

Work Schedule

• 4/10’s, Monday‑Thursday 6:00AM – 4:30PM, Typical
• Available for call‑outs, overtime, shift support, and turnaround/outage work as needed.

Travel

• Less than 10% travel expected.
