Job summary

JonnyPops in Elk River, MN, seeks an EHS Training Specialist to design, deliver, and measure environmental, health, and safety training for our manufacturing facility. Responsibilities

  • Assess EHS training needs in partnership with leadership, supervisors, and the safety committee.
  • Translate OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910) and EPA requirements into trainable content and host training sessions.
  • Develop training materials in multiple formats (presentations, job aids, videos, toolbox talks, e-learning modules).
  • Build and maintain EHS training courses in the plant’s LMS for English and Spanish delivery, including automated course assignment by role, department, and hire date.
  • Design knowledge assessments, quizzes, and practical competency checks aligned with learning objectives.
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and onboarding for production associates, maintenance, contractors, and all plant personnel.
  • Administer PPE (hard hats, etc.) and refresher training as needed.
  • Return to the production floor after training to observe application of safe work practices.
  • Document behaviors demonstrating competency or gaps; identify trends and provide monthly training effectiveness reports.
  • Update content when SOPs, regulations, or equipment change.
  • Maintain LMS training records for OSHA 300/300A and assist audits with documentation.

Job Summary

The EHS Training Specialist designs, develops, delivers, and measures the effectiveness of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) training programs for the Elk River manufacturing facility. This roleidentifiestraining gaps, translates OSHA, EPA, and internal safety standards into engaging, practical training content, conducts assessments and behavioral observations on the plant floor, and continuously improves training based on results. The Specialist owns day-to-day administration of theHuman SafetyLearning Management System (LMS) for all EHS-related training and partners with theTrainingManager to build andmaintainthe plant’s safety competency framework.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Training Design & Development
  • Assess EHS training needs in partnership withLeadership, supervisors, and thesafety committee
  • Review incident reports, near-miss data, and audit findings toidentifywhere training could reduce risk and improve compliance
  • Translate OSHA General Industry (29 CFR 1910), EPA requirements, and internal safety programsinto trainable contentand host training sessions.
  • Develop training materials in multiple formats (presentations, job aids, videos, toolbox talks, e-learning modules)
  • Build and maintain EHS training courses in the plant’s Learning Management System (LMS) for both English and Spanish delivery, including automated course assignment by role, department, and hire date
  • Design knowledge assessments, quizzes, and practical competency checks aligned with learning objectives
  • Build and document EHS competency standards that define whatsafeand compliant looks like for each plant role
Training Delivery & Assessment
  • Conduct new hire safety orientation and onboarding for production associates, maintenance, contractors, and all plant personnel.
  • Administer and Personal Protective Equipment (hard hats, captive shoe program,etc)
  • Conduct refresher training when procedures change, incidents occur, or audit findings require retraining
  • Administer knowledge checks and assessments at the end of training sessions; score assessments and provide feedback to employees
Effectiveness Measurement & Continuous Improvement
  • Return to the production floor after training toobservewhether employees are applying safe work practices
  • Document specific behaviors thatdemonstratecompetency (or gaps) in employee performance
  • Identifytrends and provide monthly training effectiveness reports to theTraining Manager
  • Revise training materials based on employee performance, assessment results, and incident investigations
  • Update content when SOPs, regulations, or equipment change
EHS Compliance & Recordkeeping Support
  • Serve as the primary administrator of the plant’s LMS for all EHS-related training: build and update courses, assign training paths, track completions, and generate compliance reports
  • Maintainaccuratetraining records to support OSHA 300/300A logs and other regulatory recordkeeping
  • Assistin preparation for internal and external audits (OSHA, insurance loss control, corporate EHS) by providing training documentation
  • Reinforce compliance through consistent tracking and follow-up with supervisors
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in EHS training, safety coordination, or a related field, ideally in manufacturing or a regulated environment
  • Bilingual, Spanish. 1-2 years’ experience working in a multilingual environment
  • Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations and EPA requirementsDemonstrated, hands‑on experience administering a Learning Management System (LMS),buildingand updating courses, assigning training by role/department, tracking completions, and generating compliance reports
  • Strong ability to create, design, and develop training content
  • Experience assessing learning and measuring training effectiveness
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
  • OSHA 10‑Hour or 30‑Hour General Industry certification (or willingness to obtainwithin 180 days)
  • Experience in food/beverage manufacturing or another regulated production environment
  • Experience supporting EHS audits, incident investigations, or root cause analysis

Physical Demands & Work Environment
  • Regular presence on the production floor, including exposure to cold/frozen environments, moving machinery, and noise
  • Ability to wear required PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, etc.)
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. and standing/walking for extended periods
Food Safety Responsibilities
  • Model and reinforce food safety culture through safe, compliant behaviors while working on the manufacturing floor.
  • Support human safety training and observations in a manner that does not compromise GMPs, hygiene, allergen controls, or product protection practices.
  • Promptly reportobservedfood safety concerns or behaviors that may affect product protection to theFSQA team.
  • Follow systemwide GMPs when on the manufacturing floor, asrequired ofall JP personnel Salary: - $65,000 - $85,500
