Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Environmental Health & Safety Technician will coordinate the activities of the site in regard to EHS, ensuring that Production, Maintenance and other shop floor activities are harmonized with EHS and Compliance guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Support all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, policies, and regulations.
  • Provide EHS input to Plant Management.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company.
  • Participate in and complete company required training programs.
  • Support the development, implementation, and assessment of the safety systems. Activities include, but are not limited to, the assessment of site safety needs; development of practical, effective solutions to those needs; aiding the implementation of solutions (including training) and assessing the effectiveness of the solutions.
  • Provide leadership, technical support, training, and project management for the development of plant-wide environmental, health, and safety programs.
  • Assure interface and integration between assigned business teams and business-level EHS group.
  • Interact with diverse teams of production/maintenance and management employees. Build positive relationships with all team members.
  • Integrate safety and care for employee health and safety, as well as the environment compliance, into all aspects of managing the business.
  • Develop and deliver safety-related training programs. These may include classroom and field training as well as one-to-one training with individuals.
  • Support employee involvement in safety initiatives. Activities may include being a contact for site safety teams and attending safety team meetings as needed.
  • Assist with the development and execution of EHS annual plans, as well as framework ownership.
  • Provide technical resources, EHS data analysis, and interpretation of regulations.
  • Work closely with Element owners to become knowledgeable and guide shop floor activities harmonizing EHS and compliance.
  • Create, write and review SRA's. Educate employees on SRA's and procedures prior to commencing work.
  • Provide guidance related to health and safety issues. Interact and work with the production, maintenance, and engineering departments to provide technical support related to regulatory compliance and the development of practical solutions related to safety, industrial hygiene, training, fire protection emergency management, and recordkeeping.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the assurance that the site complies with applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain site safety policy and procedure and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct site audits.
  • Lead safety teams in resolving safety concerns.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  • Community College / University Safety Program graduate, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of (2) years of recent professional work experience in an EHS role.
  • Minimum of (1) year of experience working within a manufacturing environment, lean manufacturing, and six sigma.

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical writing and reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state safety and health regulations including OSHA, ANSI, NFPA and NIOSH.
  • Experience with H&S technical and/or procedure writing skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate (both orally and in writing) with and influence all levels of business unit employees including senior management.
  • Competency in training, facilitating, and presenting to multi-disciplinary groups.
  • Experience with fire prevention and protection systems is strongly desired.
  • Strong team building, oral and written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside VEOLIA (regulatory agencies).
  • Established program management ability.
  • Work experience at a VPP star worksite.
  • Strong analytical skills including advanced Root Cause determination skills.
  • Powered Industrial Truck Training experience.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations.
  • SPC, Lean manufacturing or six sigma experience.

Physical Requirements
Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Safety Boots, Safety Clothing, Safety Helmet, Safety Goggle/Glasses, Respirator, Gloves).
