Job summary

Ascent Aviation Services in Marana, AZ is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Technician to help maintain a safe, compliant workplace across our 24/7 operations. You will conduct daily safety oversight, identify hazards, and support OSHA and environmental compliance while engaging with management and staff.

The role involves training on MEWPs and forklifts, performing routine inspections, and coordinating hazardous waste handling and labeling.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily safety oversight by identifying and correcting workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards in accordance with OSHA permissible exposure limits.
  • Perform department‑specific safety surveys to verify safe work practices, including proper PPE use, fall protection, and control of trip hazards.
  • Provide training on the safe operation of motorized elevated work platforms (MEWPs), including aerial and scissor lifts.
  • Provide training on safe forklift operation.
  • Perform monthly life‑safety equipment inspections.
  • Conduct weekly inspections of emergency eyewash stations and emergency showers.
  • Monitor the well‑water treatment system for proper chlorine treatment.
  • Perform duties related to RCRA hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal requirements.
  • Inspect and monitor hazardous waste levels at departmental satellite accumulation areas.
  • Ensure hazardous waste is properly labeled and stored according to classification.
  • Maintain 90‑day hazardous waste drum logs, hazardous waste records, and required supplies.
  • Perform required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspections.
  • Assist with preparation of waste shipments.
  • Remove expired chemicals as required.
  • Perform spill response and spill prevention activities.
  • Conduct environmental compliance and due diligence audits.

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Technician

supports a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace by performing daily safety oversight, inspections, employee training, hazardous waste management, and environmental compliance activities. This position works closely with management and employees to identify hazards, mitigate risk, and support compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

As a 24/7 operation, we have openings across all shifts—including standard day shifts, 2nd shift, weekend shifts, and 12‑hour shifts. Candidates must be flexible and willing to be assigned to any shift based on operational needs.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct daily safety oversight by identifying and correcting workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Monitor employee exposure to job and chemical hazards in accordance with OSHA permissible exposure limits.

  • Maintain 90‑day hazardous waste drum logs, hazardous waste records, and required supplies.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to multitask, manage shifting priorities, and follow through on projects with minimal supervision.
  • Previous experience in a construction or industrial environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to routinely walk and conduct inspections throughout the facility.
  • Frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending, stooping, and handling materials.
  • Ability to load and move drums and manually handle empty and full drums.
  • Ability to shovel, sweep, and bend over to clean up spilled materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
  • Various‑size forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, and lift trucks.
  • 2½‑ton flatbed truck, floor jacks, hand dollies, and motorized fluid transfer pump.
  • Various hand tools and safety inspection equipment.
  • May be required to operate additional equipment as needed to perform job duties effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work is performed in an industrial/manufacturing environment and may involve routine inspections throughout the facility.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials, chemicals, and heat stress.
  • Protective equipment required includes appropriate PPE based on assigned tasks and facility requirements.
  • Position may occasionally require overtime and weekend work as needed.

  • Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of department management.
