Job summary

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) in St. Petersburg, FL, seeks an EHS Sr Specialist to lead employee health and safety programs and environmental compliance initiatives.

You will develop policies, deliver training, and coordinate regulatory inspections while maintaining accurate records. The role requires an Associate's Degree with 5-7 years' experience (or equivalent) and proficiency in Microsoft Office; Bachelor's preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in a related field
• Knowledge of Velocity Software and EHS software such as Enablon or Intelex
• Experience with Greenhouse Gases and sustainability; safety best practices and training

Responsibilities

• Outlines and implements policies or programs to educate and promote employee health and safety or environmental compliance.
• Delivers training programs educating staff on environmental concerns or health and safety risks found in the organization.
• Communicates regularly with management and administration regarding the status of environmental initiatives.
• Maintains training records, health/safety manuals, incident/accident reports and other documentation.
• Tracks and documents accidents to understand causes and prevent recurrence.
• Monitors health, safety, or environmental hazards such as noise, air, or wastewater levels.
• Coordinates inspection of facilities, vehicles, or equipment to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Communicates facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans.
• Keeps current knowledge of government and industry safety regulations.

• Ensures that training records, health/safety manuals or handbooks, incident/accident reports, or other documentation are appropriately maintained.
• Tracks and documents accidents to understand causes and recommend changes to prevent future accidents.
• Monitors known health, safety, or environmental hazards, such as noise, air, or wastewater pollution levels.
• Coordinates inspection of facilities, vehicles, or equipment and processes recommending corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance to established regulations.
• Communicates facility-specific emergency response or evacuation plans.
• Has a broad and current knowledge of all government and applicable industry safety regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 5-7 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
• Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

• Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's Degree
• Discipline/Major: Environmental Health and Safety or related discipline preferred
• Knowledge, skills & abilities: Velocity Software. EHS Software such as: Enablon or Intelex. Experience with Greenhouse Gases and sustainability. Safety best practices. Safety communications. Safety inspections. Safety investigations. Safety policies and procedures. Safety training. Inspection documentation.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
• Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
• Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
