Job summary

Pacific Seafood is seeking an EHS Specialist I to support our Humboldt facility in implementing EHS programs, managing injury claims, conducting trainings, and performing audits and inspections. You will work with the Support EHS team to ensure regulatory compliance and accurate recordkeeping.

Responsibilities include daily site walkthroughs, incident investigations, training delivery, and coordination with management for corrective actions.

Qualifications

• 2+ years’ experience in EHS or similar compliance background.
• 2+ years’ experience with OSHA compliance.
• 2+ years’ experience with facilitating safety and environmental duties and responsibilities.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Continually improve, evaluate, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures to protect employees and comply with regulations.
• Conduct daily site walkthroughs, document deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions.
• Perform on-site workers’ compensation claims management, including investigation and reporting.

Summary

Our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team is a vital group dedicated to ensuring all Pacific Seafood locations remain in compliance with federal, state, and company regulations. As the EHS Specialist I, you are responsible for supporting the facility in duties related to the management and continued implementation of Pacific Seafood’s EHS Programs. This includes, managing on-the-job injury claims and documentation, facilitating orientations and trainings, conducting facility inspections and audits, performing follow-up on action items, and overseeing timely reporting, assisting in maintaining the facility’s environmental and safety compliance programs, maintaining accurate records, and communicating and collaborating with Support EHS team to ensure consistency and compliance.

• Continually improve, evaluate, implement, and maintain EHS policies and procedures to protect employees and comply with company, state, federal and local regulations.
• Conduct daily site walkthroughs, document deficiencies, and coordinate with the appropriate party to remediate or implement corrective action.
• Perform on-site workers’ compensation claims management, e.g., investigation, root-cause analysis, reporting, medical follow-up, etc.
• Schedule and facilitate mandatory EHS trainings and certifications. Identify, further develop, and deliver training programs in a manner that raises employee’s awareness and enables employees and supervisors to work safely and in compliance with external and internal policies and regulations.
• Conduct safety orientations and assist with general team member onboarding, including collection and documentation of pre-employment drug screening.
• Monitor, order, and distribute First Aid Supplies and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Attend scheduled management meetings and EHS meetings, either in person or remotely.
• Plan, coordinate, and facilitate Safety Committee meetings and initiatives.
• Implement, maintain, and facilitate safety recognition program.
• Coordinate and facilitate inspections by regulatory agencies and customers.
• Assist with chemical management program including training, documentation, purchasing, storage, usage, compliance, labeling, and disposal of chemicals.
• Conduct and document inspections for equipment, e.g., cranes, hoists, scissor lifts, PIT, LOTO points, etc.
• Coordinate with on-site management and Support EHS team to assist with maintenance of all documents, logs, and permits in accordance with internal and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain regular communication with Team Member Services and Support EHS regarding claims management and safety issues.
• Assist with required data collection, documentation, maintenance, reporting, and training for wastewater, stormwater, and/or air permits.
• Transport samples to laboratories, if necessary, using company vehicle or mileage reimbursement.
• Assist in emergency response and first aid, when needed.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary to support the overall goals and objectives of the position.

What you bring to Pacific Seafood

Required

• High school diploma or GED.
• 2+ years’ experience in EHS or similar compliance background.
• 2+ years’ experience with OSHA compliance.
• 2+ years’ experience with facilitating safety and environmental duties and responsibilities.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred

• Background in food processing, general industry, manufacturing, or similar industry.
• Associate’s degree or higher in occupational health and safety, physical science, environmental science, or related field from an accredited university or college.
• Previous experience with worker’s compensation claims management.
• Previous experience with wastewater/stormwater sampling.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

• CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to become certified required.
