Job summary

Butcher Power Products is seeking an EHS Specialist, Field Safety to partner on safety across active manufacturing operations. The role will stay on the production floor, identifying hazards, coaching employees, delivering training, and supporting incident investigations to drive corrective actions.

Responsibilities include safety walks, hazard analyses, and training for machine guarding, ergonomics, and lockout/tagout.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or safety-related education, or 3+ years of hands-on safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, fabrication, or construction environments.
  • At least three years in a safety-focused role with significant time spent in production, manufacturing, or field environments.
  • Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and industrial hazard recognition.
  • Experience delivering safety training to production or industrial employees.
  • Ability to address unsafe work practices professionally and consistently while building positive working relationships.
  • Strong documentation, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Valid California driver’s license with a driving record that meets company requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety walks, observations, and employee engagement activities to promote a positive safety culture.
  • Identify and address unsafe conditions and behaviors, exercise stop-work authority when necessary, and escape unresolved risks.
  • Develop and maintain job hazard analyses in partnership with employees and supervisors.
  • Support evaluations related to machine guarding, ergonomics, material handling, crane and rigging operations, welding, electrical safety, arc flash, and lockout/tagout.
  • Deliver new hire orientation, toolbox talks, refresher training, and equipment-specific safety training.
  • Support operator qualification activities for powered industrial trucks, aerial lifts, and overhead cranes.
  • Respond to workplace incidents, near misses, and property damage events; gather information and support root cause investigations.
  • Track hazards, corrective actions, and follow-up activities through verified resolution.
  • Support contractor safety activities, emergency drills, PPE readiness, eyewash and safety shower inspections, and industrial hygiene initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide documentation for compliance reporting, audits, and continuous improvement efforts.

Position Summary

The EHS Specialist, Field Safety serves as a hands-on safety partner across active manufacturing operations. This role maintains a strong presence on the production floor, identifying hazards, coaching employees, delivering training, supporting incident investigations, and driving corrective actions to completion. The position supports safe work practices across fabrication, assembly, electrical testing, and office environments while helping maintain compliance with applicable safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • OSHA 30, GSP, ASP, or progress toward CSP certification.
  • Conversational Spanish or experience training a multilingual workforce.
  • Experience in electrical equipment, switchgear, switchboard, or panel manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, arc flash safety, hazardous energy control, behavior-based safety, and job hazard analysis processes.
  • Trainer certification for industrial equipment and/or first aid/CPR experience.
  • Prior hands-on experience in production, welding, fabrication, or electrical work.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to spend the majority of the workday standing and walking in active manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb stairs, and use ladders during inspections and safety activities.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including respiratory and arc-rated protection when applicable.
  • Regular exposure to manufacturing conditions, including noise, welding fumes, metal dust, solvents, temperature variations, powered equipment, cranes, and electrical testing operations.
  • Ability to work occasionally outdoors, at heights, in mechanical or electrical rooms, and during off-shift operations.
  • Ability to travel locally between work sites as needed.
