Overview

Role Summary We are seeking an experienced EHS Specialist from the Minneapolis area to join our team. Occasional travel within the US may be required. In this role, you will oversee and continuously improve our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. You’ll collaborate with operational leaders to ensure both employee safety and efficient productivity, designing and implementing policies that align with federal, state, and local regulations. The role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements while proactively promoting a strong safety culture across the organization. You will work closely with leadership teams to align EHS goals with operational objectives, fostering an environment that prioritizes employee well-being and operational excellence.

This is a hybrid role, requiring three days per week onsite and additional onsite presence as needed based on business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as an advisor for leadership and staff across multiple sites, providing expertise on all EHS-related matters.
  • Develop and implement robust safety management systems, ensuring adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations.
  • Lead the development of comprehensive EHS policies and training programs, fostering a culture of continuous safety improvement.
  • Support Supervisors in conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions to mitigate risks.
  • Oversee environmental compliance efforts including waste management, air quality controls, water pollution prevention, hazardous material handling and permitting requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on safety and environmental improvement initiatives, including new equipment introduction, plant expansions and process changes.
  • Monitor workplace conditions, conduct regular safety inspections and assess risks through job hazard analysis (JHA) and risk assessments.
  • Lead safety audits and inspections, coordinating necessary remediation plans to meet regulatory and company standards.
  • Partner with department managers to drive employee engagement in EHS programs, emphasizing the importance of a safe work environment.
  • Report key EHS metrics and performance data to senior leadership, recommending strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Actively participate in sustainability initiatives, promoting environmentally responsible practices.
  • Occasional availability to support other shifts, including nights or weekends.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.

Educational Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Health and Safety, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience managing EHS programs in industrial settings, with expertise in regulatory compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and other relevant EHS regulations.
  • Previous experience in multi-site operations.
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive EHS programs.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry preferred.

  • Skilled in conducting root cause analysis and developing effective corrective actions.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
