Job summary

FITS LLC in Puerto Rico is seeking an EHS specialist to provide daily field support for pharmaceutical-capital projects. You will review permits (Hot Work, Confined Space, LOTO, Excavation, Elevated Work), approve JHAs and Lift Plans, and lead toolbox talks with contractors.

The role emphasizes safety leadership and regulatory compliance. Ideal candidates have OSHA 30, bilingual Spanish/English, and 5+ years in regulated industry safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or 5 years of related experience.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification (General or Construction).
  • Bilingual Spanish and English.
  • Experience in Construction/Capital Projects safety in regulated industry.
  • Experience with Permit-to-Work, JHA/JSA, Rigging/Lift Plans, and toolbox talks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily EHS field support to construction and capital project activities in a pharmaceutical facility.
  • Review, issue and audit daily work permits to ensure site procedure compliance.
  • Review and approve contractor JHAs, Rigging Plans, and Lift Plans before work begins.
  • Lead daily toolbox talks and safety briefings with contractors and subcontractors.
  • Conduct field inspections, safety walkthroughs and audits; identify hazards and drive corrective actions.
  • Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions are observed.
  • Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA follow-up.
  • Track and report EHS metrics to project leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, local regulations and client EHS standards.
  • Support environmental compliance on the project (waste management, spill prevention, storm water).
  • Conduct safety orientations and promote a strong safety culture across teams.

AS A PIECE OF FITS, YOU WILL: (The day-to-day on the job)

  • Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed.
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, and CAPA follow-up.
  • Track and report EHS metrics, observations, and inspection findings to project leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, local regulations, and client EHS standards; keep procedures and programs current.
  • Support environmental compliance on the project, including waste management, spill prevention, and storm water controls.
  • Conduct safety orientations and promote a strong safety culture across all contractor teams.
