Job summary

GE Appliances, a Haier company, is seeking an EHS Specialist in Camden, SC to support Appliance Park site operations with focus on compliance, risk management, and environmental responsibilities.

You will collaborate with operators and engineers to implement OSHA/EPA-aligned safety programs, conduct investigations, and drive a culture of zero incidents while delivering training and environmental reporting. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS or BA Degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Science, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or pursuing a bachelor’s degree in one of the areas above or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of EHS experience - implementing environmental, safety, and/or ergonomics compliance programs.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Strong knowledge of OSHA, DOT HMT, EPA regulations.
  • Experience working with Union workforce.
  • Knowledge and application of LEAN manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Audit experience or qualifications.
  • Ability to identify problems, develop alternatives, and work in a team-based environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide functional EHS support to Appliance Park site Operations teams based on compliance requirements, risk profile, change management needs, and performance objectives.
  • Utilize engineering controls to eliminate hazards that cause or have the potential to cause injuries and incidents.
  • Assist operational teams in annual self-assessments of GE AEHS Management System elements.
  • Deliver compliant and risk-management solutions integrated in daily site operations and lean enterprise strategy.
  • Work with various plants to align injury reduction and EHS risk management plans with Appliance Park strategy; coordinate with EHS Director and Stakeholders.
  • Use data analytics to analyze trends and identify strategic opportunities; learn to use the GE EHS management system (Gensuite).
  • Support annual site EHS training and timely delivery of training including new regulations.
  • Support site environmental compliance (air emissions, water discharge, waste disposal & recycling) and annual reporting obligations.
  • Travel to other GE Appliances sites ~10%.
  • Participate in site incident investigations to identify causes and lessons learned with Human and Organizational Performance insights.
  • Drive a collaborative culture and provide clear, concise written and verbal communication.

The Camden, SC EHS Specialist position has a key role, supporting all operations, reporting to the Plant Manager.

Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance, assessing, and mitigating risk, responding to emergencies, completing EHS recordkeeping, supporting injury and accident investigations, conducting ergonomic assessments, executing compliance assurance program tasks (e.g., conducting audits and inspections), performing environmental inspections, and presenting EHS compliance training. This role will collaborate closely with operators, technicians, and skilled trades employees and their supervisors to develop a robust EHS culture and reliable processes.

How You’ll Create Possibilities

EHS Operations :

Provide functional EHSsupporttoallAppliance Parksite Operations teamsbased on compliance requirements, riskprofile, change management needs, and performanceobjectives.

  • Utilize engineering controls toeliminatehazards that causeor have the potential to cause injuries andincidents.

  • Assistoperational teamsin annual self-assessmentsofGEAEHSManagement System elements.

  • Deliver simple, strong, and sustainable compliance and risk management solutions that are integrated in daily site operations and business lean enterprise strategy.

  • Work with laundry, dishwasher,plasticsand refrigerator plants and supporteachsite-specific injury reduction and EHS risk management plan, ensuring alignment with the overall Appliance Park strategy. Work with theAppliance Park EHS Directorto integrate the actionsrequiredto achieve sustainable injury reduction results inAppliance Park’soperational excellence goals and metrics.

  • Use data analytics and partner cross-functionally to analyze trends andidentifystrategic business opportunities that may not be readily visible using only anecdotal levels of feedback.Learn how to use the business EHS management system (i.e.,Gensuite).

  • Support execution ofannualsite EHS training plan. Ensuretimelydelivery of training including new regulations and standards.

  • Supportsite environmental compliance as applicable (e.g., air emissions, water discharge, and waste disposal & recycling). Contribute to site annual environmental reporting obligations as required(e.g., update site inventories).

  • Under the direction of theAppliance Park EHS Director, work with stakeholders (e.g., project leaders)and Appliance Park EHS Leaderstosupportcontractor safe work plans,lock out tag out assessments, and new equipment reviews, which may require travel to the equipment manufacturer.

  • Respond to employee requests for EHSassistanceand evaluationand follow throughto implementimmediate and longer-term corrective actions.

  • Participate in site incident investigations (e.g., injuries, fires, spills) to ensure causal factors areidentified, prevention steps are taken andvalidated, and lessons learned are shared andleveragedin a timely manner.Learn and apply Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles.

Culture and Communication:

  • Drive a collaborative, problem-solving culture that supports open reporting and sustainable achievement of business results.

  • Provide excellent customer service and be a technical resource for the operations team to ensure compliance with regulatory andbusinessrequirements.Respond to questions and/or concernswithtimely,accurateresponses.

  • Work with the site operations team to drive a culture of problem resolution and execute initiatives in the site’s annual EHS operating plan.

Management Systems and Compliance:

  • ImplementEHS management systems, processes, and proceduresto achieve sustainable compliance and business performance results. IntegrateEHS management tools in thelean enterprise operating processes. Drive for solutions thataddress both short-term operational risks and long-term environmental liability management.
  • Drive standardization across the operation for management of change and high-risk processes includingbut not limited tooverhead cranes,lock out tag out,and ergonomics.
What You’ll Bring to Our Team

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment.
  • Work may involveliftingmaterials andproductsup to 30 pounds.
  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limitedto,eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats.
  • Requiresfrequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Travel to other GE Appliances sites may berequired at approximately10% of time.
