Job summary

IFF seeks an experienced EHS Manager to lead safety, health and environment initiatives at our Kansas City, KS site. This plant-based role requires on-site presence with limited travel.

You will drive EH&S processes to meet business objectives and partner with site leadership to enhance performance. You will develop environmental strategies, implement process safety improvements, coordinate audits and investigations, and lead the EH&S team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical/scientific field or equivalent experience.
  • At least 7 years in operations, maintenance or R&D leadership with safety/environment programs.
  • Working knowledge of SHE and PSM systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in OSHA regulations and related safety management practices (confined space, line break, lockout/tagout, respiratory protection).
  • Ability to collect and analyze data, assess risk and make informed decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Leads EH&S work processes and initiatives to meet site and business performance goals.
  • Develops strategic EH&S/ES&S environmental strategies and improvement plans.
  • Implements process safety improvement activities across the site.
  • Coordinates EH&S audits and leads severe incident investigations.
  • Leads EH&S team and coaches site personnel on EH&S issues.
  • Collaborates with site leadership and cross-functional partners to drive continuous improvement.

In this role, the site EHS Manager provides expertise on safety, health and environment to site leadership. The purpose of this role is to lead the implementation of EH&S processes and performance for the site so that business and corporate EH&S and business objectives are met.

The role is based in Kansas City, KS. This is a plant-based position where the expectation is to be on-site at the facility. Work from home is at manager’s discretion. Travel may be required but very limited.

Where You’ll Make a Difference
  • Leads EH&S Work Processes and initiatives to deliver geographic and business expectations for performance through local site EH&S and Site Leadership
  • Develops strategic EH&S/ES&S environmental and regulatory strategies, along with performance improvement plans and goals across the site
  • In conjunction with business technology center leadership, implements process safety performance improvement activities related to work practices or behaviors across a site
  • Responsible for coordinating second and third party EH&S related audits and lead Severe Incident Investigations
  • Collaborates, leverages and ensures connectivity with EH&S Sustainability/Business Services/Ops Expertise Services (Training/Learning/reliability, etc.) to ensure seamless support for all EH&S performance improvement activities
  • Leads and champions management system reviews across the site to drive toward the value of continuous improvement offered by the assessment and audit processes
  • Implements EH&S/ES&S management systems consistent with site and business interests
  • Supports local delivery in implementing effective environment, health and safety and emergency services and security program that is compatible with local and country issues and culture
  • Leads Site EH&S Team and Coaches EH&S and Site teams and individuals on EH&S issues
  • Works with the Site Leaders to jointly look for and capture leverageable opportunities across the site and Protein Solutions Network
What Makes You the Right Fit
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher degree in a technical/scientific field or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in operations, maintenance or R&D leadership - responsible for the creation and implementation of hard hat safety, behavioral safety, occupational health and environmental programs and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of SHE and PSM systems
  • Demonstrated functional/technical expertise of OSHA regulations and management systems such as confined space, line break, lock out/tag out, respiratory protection and other safe work practices
  • Ability to collect & analyze data, identify solutions, assess risk factors, and make sound decisions
