Job summary

Perrigo is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to elevate safety culture and performance at our Covington, Ohio facility. The role reports to the Plant Manager and requires a highly organized, action-oriented leader who engages on the manufacturing floor and drives meaningful improvements in safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in food, consumer products, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated manufacturing environments is preferred but not required.
  • Experience implementing and managing EHS management systems.
  • Experience with environmental reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Safety Culture & Employee Engagement within the facility.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance and HR.
  • Drive investigation excellence and root cause analysis for incidents.
  • Lead risk assessment and hazard identification activities.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and audit readiness (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and leaders.
  • Oversee the site's security services operation and incident management.

We are seeking an engaged, visible and proactive Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead and continuously elevate our safety culture and EHS performance at our manufacturing facility in Covington, Ohio.


This position serves as a key member of the Site Leadership Team and reports directly to the Plant Manager. The successful candidate will be a highly organized, action-oriented leader who thrives on being present on the manufacturing floor, building strong relationships, developing people, and driving meaningful improvements in safety performance.


Scope of the Role

Lead Safety Culture & Employee Engagement


  • Champion a culture where safety is integrated into every decision and every activity.

  • Maintain a highly visible presence throughout the facility, actively engaging employees at all levels.

  • Promote proactive safety behaviors and encourage open reporting of hazards and opportunities through the “Good Catch” program.

  • Lead and facilitate safety committees, employee engagement activities, and safety communication programs.

  • Continuously assess and improve site EHS programs, policies, procedures, and standards.


Cross-Functional Leadership


  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Plant Manager and Site Leadership Team.

  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Human Resources to drive sustainable solutions.

  • Support capital projects, process changes, and continuous improvement initiatives by ensuring appropriate EHS considerations are incorporated into planning and execution


Drive Investigation Excellence & Risk Reduction


  • Lead injury and illness cases from initial reporting through case closure.

  • Conduct and facilitate thorough root cause investigations utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies.

  • Ensure timely implementation and verification of corrective and preventive actions.

  • Communicate any lessons learned across the organization to prevent recurrence.

  • Partner with site leaders to identify systemic causes and implement sustainable solutions.


Lead Risk Assessment & Hazard Identification Activities


  • Facilitate and improve proactive area risk assessments across all operational areas.

  • Lead routine GEMBA walks with leadership and cross-functional teams.

  • Evaluate workplace hazards and partner with operations teams to implement practical and effective controls.


Ensure Regulatory Compliance & Audit Readiness


  • Lead all internal and external EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions.

  • Develop and maintain programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Maintain required EHS records, reporting, permits, and documentation.

  • Facilitate regulatory inspections and ensure appropriate follow-up actions are completed.


Training & Development


  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leaders.

  • Support new employee onboarding and ongoing compliance training.

  • Build organizational capability through mentoring, education, and continuous development.


Security Program Leadership


  • Provide leadership and oversight for the site's third-party security services operation, ensuring effective protection of employees, visitors, assets, and facilities.

  • Manage the on-site Security Supervisor and contracted security team providing 24/7/365 site coverage.

  • Partner with the security team on incident and case management activities, including investigations, documentation, trend analysis, and resolution of site security concerns.

  • Conduct routine reviews of security performance, staffing effectiveness, and service delivery expectations.


Experience Required

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.

  • 7+ years of progressive EHS experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in food, consumer products, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated manufacturing environments is preferred but not required.

  • Experience implementing and managing EHS management systems.

  • Experience with environmental reporting requirements.
