This position supports corporate and regional leadership while serving as a key resource to project teams, ensuring compliance, reducing risk, and advancing Forgen’s Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.

With deep expertise in MSHA and working knowledge of OSHA, this role leads safety strategy execution in mining, mine-reclamation, and complex geotechnical environments. The EHS Manager oversees and mentors safety professionals, drives proactive risk management, and partners with operations, clients, and regulators to uphold Forgen’s reputation as a safety-first organization.

Forgen Overview

Forgen is a leading geotechnical and specialty civil construction company operating across North America. We are dedicated to delivering innovative solutions for complex civil, geotechnical, and environmental challenges, guided by our core values of integrity, passion, teamwork, and smart work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of Safety & Health professionals (5+), ensuring accountability, development, and high performance.
  • Champion Forgen’s Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture through leadership, coaching, and visible commitment.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve MSHA-compliant safety and health programs for mining and mine-reclamation environments.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including audit readiness and response to inspections, citations, and inquiries.
  • Provide direct EHS support to project teams, particularly on high-risk, high-profile, or MSHA-regulated projects.
  • Conduct risk-based assessments, hazard analyses (AHA/JHA), and site audits to identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation to prevent recurrence.
  • Deliver and coordinate training programs, field coaching, and competency development aligned with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Project Managers, and executives to align safety initiatives with project and corporate objectives.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with regulators and clients, representing Forgen during audits, inspections, and project reviews.
  • Support development and review of Health and Safety Plans (HASPs) to ensure alignment with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and report safety performance metrics, trends, and narratives to support leadership decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with estimating and business development teams to support pre-bid safety planning and proposal narratives.
  • Ensure proper documentation and tracking of inspections, training, certifications, and incident data within company systems.
  • Promote consistent application of hazard identification and risk mitigation practices to reduce exposure to ALARP.
  • Apply strong organizational and leadership skills to manage multiple projects and priorities across geographically dispersed locations.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field (required).
  • Minimum 10 years of EHS experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or multi-site role.
  • Demonstrated experience in MSHA-regulated environments (mining, mine closure, reclamation, or remediation).
  • Experience supporting large-scale civil, geotechnical, or environmental construction projects.
  • Proven leadership in team management, regulatory compliance, and client engagement.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent BCSP certification.
  • MSHA and OSHA certifications required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • OSHA 500, 40-Hour HAZWOPER, EM 385-1-1, and other advanced safety certifications.
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial hygiene, fall protection, trenching, and hazardous materials.
  • Demonstrated success in risk management, claims reduction, and loss prevention strategies.
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies and managing compliance processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present to clients and leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, professional presence, and ability to perform under pressure.
Physical Demands & Work Environment

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, extended standing or walking on project sites, climbing in and out of equipment, and working in confined spaces or at heights. Work conditions and demands may vary, with possible exposure to heavy machinery, chemicals, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather.
