Job summary

Bunge North America is offering a Safety Internship to motivated students. You’ll rotate through crush/refine, packaging, or grain elevator facilities, supporting safety culture and improvement initiatives.

You will help develop training, update procedures, review safety programs, and perform hazard assessments while gaining hands-on safety management experience and exposure to multiple sites across the network.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Certificate.
  • Ability to adjust to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, adversity, and constant change.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in standard PC applications.
  • Ability to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support safety culture and continuous improvement through site projects or initiatives.
  • Develop training materials and update procedures and JHAs.
  • Conduct PPE and confined space hazard assessments and review LOTO procedures.
  • Track and trend proactive and reactive metrics; conduct gap analyses.
  • Audit sites and develop reports with corrective actions.
  • Travel to other Bunge facilities for development and support as needed.

A Day in the Life:

The Bunge North America Safety Internship Program is seeking collaborative, results-oriented candidates with strong critical thinking and communication skills. The internship is designed to provide an understanding of how safety is driven at a company that values safety first and fosters a strong safety culture. During the internship, you will be exposed to various aspects of safety management and develop the skills and knowledge needed to build a strong foundation for a career in the safety field.

Location to be determined based on current business needs, you would be placed at one of our crush/refine, packaging, or grain elevator facilities. Ability and willingness to relocate for the duration of the internship is required.

Position Details:
  • Summer Work Term: Approximately 12 weeks
  • Assignment location will be determined based on business requirements.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Support Bunge’s safety culture and continuous improvement efforts by participating in site-identified projects or initiatives. This will follow the program governance model of 70/20/10 (70% hands-on experience, 20% informal learning, and 10% formal learning) and could include:
    • Developing training material
    • Updating procedures, safe work instructions, and/or JHAs
    • Conducting PPE and confined space hazard assessments, reviewing LOTO procedures, and reviewing completed permits
    • Tracking and trending of proactive and reactive metrics
    • Conducting procedural gap analyses
    • Conduct audits and develop reports with corrective actions
    • Ability to travel to other Bunge facilities for development and/or assistance as requested
  • Develop a thorough understanding of high potential exposures and conduct gap analysis.
  • Demonstrate your level of understanding by responding to verbal or written inquiries from supervisors, mentors, or the program manager.
  • Analyze data and develop reports.
  • Travel to other Bunge locations for training and exposure purposes.
  • Communicate effectively with Bunge internal and external customers.
