Job Description

Position Summary: This position is a program services position responsible for the delivery of home-based Early Head Start (EHS) services to infants, toddlers, and pregnant mothers. The EHS Home Visitor implements individual family home visits and group socializations in accordance with federal regulations.

This position will be an employee of Murray Head Start / Murray ISD, but based out of Fulton, KY.

Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of a home‑based CDA credential, comparable credential, or equivalent coursework as part of an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Child Development. The employee must be able to lift and carry infants and toddlers up to a maximum of 45 pounds, kneel, squat, crawl, sit on and rise from the floor, and reach overhead.

Job Responsibilities
  • Implement home‑based service delivery in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, agency policies, and program goals and objectives.
  • Schedule and conduct 90‑minute home visits with parents and children.
  • Support parents as their child’s first teacher and encourage parent engagement in service delivery.
  • Assist with program recruitment, screenings, and registration.
  • Assist with family service referrals based on family‑identified needs.
  • Schedule and conduct group socializations twice monthly.
  • Positively promote Murray Head Start within the school district and the community.
Specific Duties and Performance Responsibilities
  • Assist families in identifying resources and needs.
  • Work with families and children on a scheduled one‑to‑one weekly basis in their homes for at least 90 minutes.
  • Encourage and promote the family's achievement of self‑sufficiency.
  • Encourage parents to attend meetings and provide transport when necessary.
  • Integrate all Head Start service components during home visits.
  • Work with parents to develop weekly home visit and activity plans based on each child’s assessment and identified family needs.
  • Foster the belief that parents are their child’s first teacher and reinforce this concept with practical suggestions.
  • Provide guidance and leadership in planning and participating in parent meetings.
  • Transport families when necessary to community services offices such as family planning, SNAP, employment, health services, vocational rehabilitation, and psychological services.
  • Assist parents in utilizing all available community resources.
  • Act as a liaison and advocate between community resources and Head Start families.
  • Assist parents in developing ways to use household resources in educational activities with their children.
  • Provide parents and children with group socialization experiences.
  • Create, select, adapt, and evaluate materials and activities appropriate for infants and toddlers.
  • Presents developmentally appropriate activities through natural play experiences.
  • Demonstrate and use principles of positive guidance techniques, behavioral support, and management skills appropriate for young children.
  • Assist families in arranging and transporting medical and dental appointments as required by Head Start, including designated follow‑ups.
  • Plan one nutrition activity at least once each month during a home visit.
  • Conduct health checks on each home visit.
  • Maintain support and ongoing communication with supervisors.
  • Design and evaluate processes and strategies that support transitions between programs and/or settings.
  • Consult and collaborate with professionals as directed by the Site Supervisor.
  • Maintain a positive attitude toward all aspects of the program and seek ways to improve areas.
  • Adhere to professional ethics and standards.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities, such as professional organization involvement, literature application, staff meetings, and local training sessions.
  • Establish and foster good working relationships within the program.
  • Maintain agency records and ensure confidentiality of records and information.
  • Complete lesson plans and keep them up to date.
  • Participate in self‑evaluation activities.
