Job summary

Blue Origin in Kent, WA seeks an experienced EHS professional to lead environmental, health, and safety programs across our operations. You will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while supporting engineering and production resources in safety and prototyping.

The role requires expertise in industrial hygiene, incident investigations, and risk assessments, with a focus on safe, repeatable spaceflight. Travel up to 10% and relocation support are available as needed.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years total work in EHS
  • 5+ years in an operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA and Washington regulations
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management methods
  • Strong technical writing and problem-solving abilities

Responsibilities

  • Implements EHS programs for evaluation and control of hazards, including industrial hygiene, fall protection, confined space, lock out tag out, process safety
  • Performs EHS consultation planning, management, and reporting of assessments
  • Provides subject matter expertise in design and test reviews
  • Supports incidents including spills, injuries, hazardous operations, launches, and emergencies
  • Ensures compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations at Headquarters in Kent, WA and satellite facilities
  • Prepares and submits reports to federal and state regulators as required
  • Keeps Blue Origin processes and procedures up-to-date
  • Indoctrinates new employees on the EHS Program
  • Assists in waste disposal activities and recycling
  • Contributes to injury/illness and near miss reporting
  • Develops, updates, and delivers EHS training
  • Serves as site focal point for safety and environmental issues
  • Evaluates operations for continuous improvement and preventive action
  • Supports job hazard analyses and risk assessments

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of EHS Professionals, you will provide subject matter expertise to engineering and production resources related to EHS manufacturing and prototyping. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of safety and health compliance with local, state, and federal regulations at Headquarters in Kent, WA and satellite locations including, but not limited to: OSHA, PSM, NFPA, and ANSI requirements. You will ensure environmental compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including but not limited to: NEPA, RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, and NPDES. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to
  • Implements EHS programs for the evaluation and control of potential hazards including, but not limited to: industrial hygiene; fall protection; confined space; lock out tag out; process safety management; hazard assessments; hearing conservation and noise hazards; heat stress; and environmental management
  • Performs a wide range of EHS consultation services, which includes planning, managing, and reporting the results of assessments
  • Provides subject matter expertise in design and test reviews
  • Provides support to incidents, including spills, injuries, hazardous operations, launches, hurricanes, and other emergencies
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal safety, health, and environmental regulations at Headquarters in Kent, WA and all satellite facilities
  • Prepares and submits reports to federal and state regulatory agencies as required
  • Continually updates and ensures compliance with Blue Origin processes and procedures
  • Indoctrinates new employees on our EHS Program
  • Assists in waste disposal activities including hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, universal waste, and recycling materials
  • Contributes to the injury/illness and near miss reporting process
  • Develops, updates, and delivers EHS training
  • Serves as site focal point for safety and environmental issues and concerns
  • Evaluates operations for continuous process improvement and implementation of preventive action measures
  • Supports development of job hazard analyses and risk assessments

Minimum Qualifications
  • 7+ years total work in EHS
  • 5+ years work experience in an operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering, chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or occupational safety
  • Knowledge and ability to use industrial hygiene tools and monitors
  • Expertise in writing technical reports
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and State of Washington regulations
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management methods
  • Knowledge of incident/accident reporting practices, investigations, root cause/corrective action processes
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail, technical writing, with an ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information
  • Candidate must be able to lift/carry up to fifty pounds, physically climb multiple flights of stairs, withstand prolonged standing, and work in adverse weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years total work in EHS
  • 7+ years work experience in an operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, or chemical industry
  • Expertise in Life Safety Code (NFPA 101)
Base Pay Range for:

WA applicants is $134,434.00 - $188,207.25
