Job summary

Divergent is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer II to support and enhance EHS programs across our manufacturing operations in Los Angeles.   • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 2+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, aerospace, automotive, chemical, or related environments.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater, and chemical safety regulations.
  • Experience supporting EHS compliance programs, inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support implementation and execution of site environmental, health, and safety programs in compliance with OSHA, EPA, DTSC, AQMD, and other applicable regulations.
  • Assist with management of hazardous waste, wastewater, stormwater, air permitting, and chemical compliance programs.
  • Conduct routine EHS inspections, audits, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses to identify hazards and drive corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, supporting root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action implementation.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs including HAZCOM, PPE, LOTO, emergency response, and other required safety topics.

Purpose

Divergent is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer II to support and enhance environmental, health, and safety programs across our advanced manufacturing operations. This role will partner cross-functionally with manufacturing, facilities, engineering, and operations teams to ensure compliance with applicable environmental and occupational safety regulations while helping drive a proactive safety culture. The EHS Engineer II will support day-to-day EHS operations, participate in incident investigations and corrective actions, maintain compliance programs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the organization. This role is ideal for an engineer with prior manufacturing EHS experience who is continuing to develop technical expertise and ownership within a fast-paced production environment.

The Role
  • Support implementation and execution of site environmental, health, and safety programs in compliance withOSHA, EPA, DTSC, AQMD, and other applicable regulations
  • Assist with management of hazardous waste, wastewater, stormwater, air permitting, and chemical complianceprograms
  • Conduct routine EHS inspections, audits, risk assessments, and job hazard analyses to identify hazards and drivecorrective actions
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, supporting root cause analysis and corrective/preventiveaction implementation
  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs including HAZCOM, PPE, LOTO, emergency response, and otherrequired safety topics
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for equipment, facility, and operational changes
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, regulatory records, permits, reports, and compliance tracking systems
  • Partner with manufacturing and engineering teams to improve workplace safety, ergonomics, and operationalcompliance
  • Support contractor safety management and ensure compliance with site safety requirements
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities
  • Assist with implementation and continuous improvement of EHS management systems and standard operatingprocedures
  • Contribute to fostering a positive, proactive, and accountable safety culture throughout the organization
Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Public Health, Engineering, or related technical field
  • 2+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial, aerospace, automotive, chemical, or related environments
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, hazardous waste, air quality, wastewater, and chemical safety regulations
  • Experience supporting EHS compliance programs, inspections, audits, and incident investigations
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS documentation/reporting systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting advanced manufacturing or industrial production environments
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management systems
  • Experience with hazardous waste management, wastewater systems, air permitting, or stormwater compliance
  • Knowledge of industrial safety programs including LOTO, machine guarding, fall protection, confined space, and contractor safety Experience participating in Management of Change (MOC) processes
  • Professional certifications such as HAZWOPER, RCRA, ASP, CSP, CHMM, or related credentials preferred

Compensation

At Divergent, our pay range is based on the level of the job. For this role, we will consider candidates at levels ABC - XYZ as evaluated through our interview process.

Pay Range

$111,300 - $176,720 USD
