Job summary

Balchem Corporation in Slate Hill, NY is seeking an EHS Specialist who will report directly to the Plant Manager and align with the Regional EHS Manager to drive safety, regulatory compliance, and program management at the Slate Hill site.

You will perform hazard analyses, conduct inspections, develop training content, and manage incident investigations while driving continuous improvement to achieve zero incidents at the site.

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand the manufacturing process including regulatory and quality requirements to ensure compliant procedures and training content.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and various software applications.
  • Problem solving and decision‑making skills.
  • 3+ years of production and/or EHS experience at a specialty chemical or food plant.
  • Experience and/or certification to conduct employee safety training as required by OSHA is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis for all plant tasks (Operations, Maintenance, Shipping & Receiving).
  • Perform PPE hazard assessments by identifying workplace risks and required PPE.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits; track and resolve action items.
  • Develop EHS related employee training content.
  • Ensure compliance programs and procedures meet EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Administer and facilitate safety programs including audits, safety committee meetings/events, and employee safety observations.
  • Administer industrial hygiene monitoring of employees.
  • Develop site procedures and visual work instructions to improve processes and safety.
  • Maintain all EHS records/documentation.
  • Support incident management at the site with guidance from regional EHS manager and plant manager.
  • Collect data and report on safety incidents and investigations.
  • Drive EHS culture continuous improvement through site projects and corporate initiatives.

Job description

Position Summary

This position reports directly to the Plant Manager at the Slate Hill site and will take EHS functional direction from the Regional EHS Manager. This role is responsible for safety and regulatory compliance, process improvement, and program management.

Essential Functions
  • Perform Job Hazard Analysis for all plant related tasks (Operations, Maintenance Shipping & Receiving)
  • Perform PPE hazard assessments by identifying workplace risks and determining the required personal protective equipment
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits. Track and resolve action items resulting from them.
  • Develop EHS related employee training content.
  • Ensures that compliance programs and procedures meet the EHS regulatory requirements.
  • Administers and facilitates employee participation programs including internal audits, safety committee meetings/events, and employee safety observations.
  • Administers industrial hygiene monitoring of employees.
  • Develops and assists in developing site procedures and visual work instructions, especially those that create process or safety improvement.
  • Maintains all EHS records / documentation.
  • Supports incident management at the site with direction from the regional EHS manager and the plant manager.
  • Collects data and reports on safety incidents and resulting investigations.
  • Drives EHS culture continuous improvement – completes assigned site projects and corporate initiatives while convincing others that zero incidents is possible.
Requirements
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to understand the manufacturing process including all regulatory and quality requirements to ensure compliance of procedural and training content.

Salary Range: $23-$25 per hour
