Job summary

ALCOM in Winslow, ME seeks a Safety Coordinator to support day-to-day safety operations at the local plant, including training, audits, incident management, and policy implementation. This is a full-time, temporary role expected to last about 18 months, with work Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

The role emphasizes safety communications, meetings, PPE observations, OSHA reporting, and coordination with multiple departments to ensure compliance and a safe working environment.

Qualifications

• Two-year degree in Business, Engineering or HSE-related field preferred; however, may consider multiple years of engaged work history.
• OSHA 30 Occupational Health & Safety certification preferred.
• Prefer safety work-related experience within an industrial work environment specific to manufacturing or construction as well as multi-site locations.
• Must have workers' compensation claims management or administration experience.
• Must have good PC and technology skills.
• Must have reasonable small group training and presentation capability.
• Must be good with multitasking, time management, and have a great sense for establishing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Supports daily stretch program and shows a shopfloor presence, cycling through lines during morning and afternoon pre-work stretch.
• Supports safety communications, covering and rolling out new safety topics and SOPs.
• Supports all safety training including initial new hire training and onboarding SOP training, tracking, and reporting.
• Supports plant safety programs such as hearing conservation, fall protection, scaffolding, SDS Sheets, and others.
• Attends and helps facilitate employee engagement through safety committee processes for Millennium Finish and Sukee Weld activities.
• Supports new safety policy and SOP implementation efforts.
• Supports weekly safety audits and inspections by cycling between lines and shop floor areas.
• Supports incident reporting process with supervisory participation and documentation.
• Supports incident investigation and 5 Whys documentation.
• Submits workers' compensation insurance first report of injury submissions.
• Supports return-to-work activities and modified duty coordination.
• Performs PPE observations and communicates with employees and supervisors to ensure policy compliance.
• Maintains compliance with OSHA logs and state/federal reporting requirements.
• Performs other safety project work as directed.

Position Summary

This is a full-time, temporary position expected to last approximately 18 months. This assignment is not a permanent position, and its duration may be adjusted based on business needs.

The Safety Coordinator’s primary role focuses on the day-to-day safety department activities supporting the local plant operations, including safety training, safety meetings, workplace safety audits, injury management, and shop floor compliance with safety standards and requirements.

Functions and Responsibilities

• Supports daily stretch program and shows a shopfloor presence and supports by cycling through the lines at both Millennium and Sukee during morning and afternoon pre-work stretch.
• Supports safety communications, on an as need base, during morning and afternoon musters to cover and roll out new safety topics and SOPs.
• Supports all safety training to include initial new hire safety training as well as extensive onboarding SOP training, tracking, and reporting.
• Supports plant safety programs such as hearing conservation, fall protection, scaffolding, SDS Sheets, and others.
• Attends and helps facilitate employee engagement through basic safety committee processes for both Millennium Finish and Sukee Weld activities, with some periodic involvement with Materials and Logistics groups.
• Supports new safety policy and SOP implementation efforts.
• Supports weekly safety audits and inspections by cycling between lines and various shop floor areas.
• Supports Company Incident Report process by ensuring supervisory participation and documentation.
• Supports incident investigation and documentation of 5 Whys.
• Submits workers' compensation insurance first report of injury submissions.
• Supports company return-to-work activities and modified duty coordination.
• While making periodic shop floor visits, performs basic PPE observations and communicates directly with employees and, as needed, with the direct supervisor to accomplish policy compliance.
• Maintains compliance with State and Federal reporting requirements such as OSHA 300 log.
• Performs all other related safety project work as directed.
