Job summary

Solenis LLC is seeking an EHS Specialist to evaluate and maintain workplace safety programs across field and plant operations. You will partner with the EHS&S team to ensure compliance with EPA, OSHA, and regulatory standards while supporting security and other safety programs.

The role focuses on hands-on environmental management, incident response, waste handling, training, and data reporting, with about 70–75% time in the field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field
  • 3–5 years in manufacturing/industrial environmental systems with EHS compliance
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 and 45001 requirements

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure compliance within EPA, OSHA, RCMS and state environmental standards
  • Act as primary responder for chemical spills, leaks, or hazmat incidents with appropriate PPE
  • Maintain spill response kits and emergency equipment in ready state
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective actions
  • Conduct safety briefings or training for facility staff and assist with computer-based training
  • Oversee waste generation, storage, and disposal including shipments for hazardous and non-hazardous waste
  • Identify and classify hazardous, non-hazardous, universal, and electronic waste streams
  • Manage accumulation areas and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Support site security programs and related inspections
  • Ensure compliance with DOT, IATA and IMDG regulations

This position is accountable to the EHS&S Manager and is responsible for evaluating, implementing, and maintaining workplace safety and health programs that are consistent with applicable regulatory and corporate requirements. The EHS Team member will work in a dynamic team environment with other EHS team members and spend approximately 70-75% of their time in the field interacting with both employee and contractor work groups.

This EHS Specialist role is responsible for ensuring the safe, legal, and efficient management of our environmental programs but will also support security and other safety programs as needed.

The ideal candidate combines a strong technical understanding of chemical safety with hands‑on operational discipline.

An EHS resource for plant operations will:
  • Monitor and ensure compliance within all assigned programs through inspections, audits, regulatory reporting, training and engagement with regulatory agency personnel.
  • Act as a primary responder for chemical spills, leaks, or other hazardous materials incidents, utilizing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain spill response kits and emergency equipment in a state of constant readiness.
  • Lead incident investigations to support determination of causal factors and corrective actions.
  • Conduct safety briefings or training for facility staff and assist with computer-based training assignments.
  • Participate in project reviews and change management processes to identify EHS issues/opportunities.
  • Oversee all waste generation, recycle and disposal activities including preparing shipments for hazardous (RCRA) and non‑hazardous waste and shipping papers.
  • Identify and classify hazardous, non‑hazardous, universal, and electronic waste streams based on regulatory criteria.
  • Safely collect, consolidate, and package waste materials into appropriate containers (e.g., drums, totes) ensuring proper labeling and compatibility.
  • Manage recycle streams and offsite vendors collecting these streams (used oil, pallets, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate logs of waste generation, storage limits, and disposal records for annual/biennial regulatory reporting.
  • Manage accumulation areas (Satellite Accumulation Areas and 90-day storage areas).
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections of facilities to ensure continuous compliance with EPA, OSHA, RCMS, and state environmental standards.
  • Oversee general security programs and protocols to maintain compliance with the overall site security plan and regulatory programs. This includes conducting fence and lighting inspections.
  • Support compliance with DOT, IATA and IMDG regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Essential Skills:
  • Self guiding, proactive approach with a willingness to study and learn
  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledgeable in health, safety, hazardous waste, DOT, RCRA, and emergency response
  • Good functionality with PC programs including in Microsoft Office applications (Strong in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience in reporting metrics for Safety and Health performance
Essential Physical Functions:
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (frequently up to 50 lbs) and maneuver 55-gallon drums.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and full-body protective gear for extended periods.
  • Comfort working in varied environments, including warehouses, laboratories, or outdoor storage yards.
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related technical field (or equivalent hands‑on experience). Other degrees in sciences will be considered.
  • Prefer a minimum of 3 - 5 years' work experience in a manufacturing/industrial environmental systems or related field working with EHS compliance and management systems preferably within facility operations unit.
  • Knowledge of ISO EHS Management program to ensure compliance with Corporate and Statutory requirements including ISO 14001 and 45001 requirements.
Certifications & Licenses (or willingness to obtain):
  • Must be able to become certified to drive a forklift
  • 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification (Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response) with current annual 8‑hour refreshers.
  • DOT Hazardous Materials Shipping Certification (Title 49 CFR).
  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management Certification (Title 40 CFR).

The expected compensation range for this position is between $77,270.00 and $113,322.00 plus discretionary bonuses. The exact compensation may vary based on your skills, experience and other factors permitted by law.
