Job Summary

The EHS Manager plays an essential role in establishing and promoting a culture of safety within the Industrial Services areas they are assigned, focusing on compliance with both internal EHS policies and external regulatory requirements. This position involves overseeing EHS protocols across multiple locations, ensuring that each site adheres to the highest standards of workplace safety and health. By conducting regular audits, providing training, and implementing EHS programs, the EHS Manager works to minimize risks, reduce workplace accidents, and maintain a safe, healthy environment for all employees. Through collaboration with various departments and leadership teams, this role supports the organization’s commitment to safety, demonstrating the importance of proactive measures in safeguarding the well‑being of its workforce.

Essential Job Responsibilities
Training and Education
  • Coordinate and oversee EHS training programs for all employees within the area, including but not limited to emergency response, hazardous material handling, and equipment safety.
  • Assist in creating and performing new hire orientations, hazard awareness training, and other training as required.
  • Manage, coordinate, participate in and/or conduct daily safety meetings, provide educational materials, and organize drills to enhance employee awareness of EHS procedures and regulations on job sites and office facilities.
  • Apply leadership skills in an engaging fashion to continually develop and improve every team member’s hazard recognition skill and hazard mitigation protocols and knowledge base.
  • Complete proper documentation and storage for all training and education completed.
  • Manage, educate, and continuously improve the abilities and awareness of the field EHS coordinators within the area, ensuring daily documentation requirements are met by the safety teams.
Enforcing EHS Policies and Procedures
  • Implement company EHS policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Apply all policies in a consistent fashion to facilitate a safety culture whereby hazard recognition and hazard elimination/mitigation is always the first task in every activity.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols, including company policies, the Site Safety Plan (SSP), client guidelines, and relevant federal regulations (OSHA, MSHA).
  • Perform continual monitoring of job site and work habits to ensure compliance with company and regulatory health and safety regulations. Inspections consist of, but are not limited to: Lockout‑Tagout, Required Permits and other job forms, Work Habits, Facility Inspections, and Construction Site Inspections.
Incident Investigations / Record Keeping and Reporting
  • Lead the investigation of incidents within the area, ensuring thorough documentation, identification of root causes, and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure injured employees are provided appropriate care in a timely manner including but not limited to utilization of CORE Occupational Medicine.
  • Provide adequate and proper documentation and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provide operational management with safety analytics related to incident reports, hazards, corrective actions, etc.
  • Utilize KPA reporting including Safety Alerts, Incident Investigation reports, Root Cause Analysis, etc.
  • Work with operations and EHS management team to determine actionable items related to incidents and enforce completion.
Coordination with Operations
  • Establish a firm communication system between operations and H&S by being available and responsive to requests from field employees and managers.
  • Work closely with the operations team to facilitate and maintain a culture where safety “is who we are”. Enable and facilitate a setting where the entire organization is engaged to achieve behavior‑based safe work excellence.
  • Act to ensure EHS team is a constructive partner with the operations team and is a resource to operations. Earn the operations team respect as a strong leader and advocate of the management team.
  • Interface with customer’s safety team on a frequent basis. Closely align company systems with customer requirements.
Performing Site Inspections, Audits, and Monitoring
  • Conduct and document regular inspections to identify safety violations, potential hazards, or non‑compliance with EHS regulations.
  • Promptly address issues, provide solutions, and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform daily safety reports to provide important day‑to‑day data to EHS and project management.
Maintaining EHS Records and Documentation
  • Meticulously keep accurate records and ensure timely input of records into appropriate locations such as KPA.
  • Assist EHS Management (Regional, Corporate, etc.) with data gathering, analytics, and creation of daily, weekly, monthly safety meeting topics and documentation.
Liaising with Regulatory Agencies
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies, participate in inspections, and facilitate audits to uphold EHS standards.
  • Ensure proper documentation and notification of all citations and assist in the implementation of corrective actions and preventative measures.
Continuous Improvement of Safety Practices
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging safety technologies.
  • Collaborate with Regional EHS Management to identify opportunities for enhancing safety measures and implementing new strategies for improved safety performance.
  • Provide feedback from the field to aid in process improvement and implementation progress.
  • Analyze safety data and trends within the region to identify areas for improvement, develop strategic EHS plans, and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Regional EHS Manager.
Qualifications
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or 5 years of experience in a construction safety position and hold equivalent required, obtain CHST within 12 months of accepting position.
  • Extensive working knowledge of OSHA regulations, standards, and other applicable codes/regulations, with a proven track record of ensuring compliance.
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of EHS personnel effectively, demonstrating strong leadership skills and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience working within the heavy industrial construction industry, including manufacturing, pipeline, mining, food and beverage, power, and refining environments.
  • Proven ability to assess potential hazards and risks within divisional operations and develop and implement strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Experience in incident investigation techniques and root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and develop solutions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Knowledge of emergency response plans and procedures, coordinating drills and exercises, and ensuring readiness for potential emergencies.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies and contractors.
  • MSHA Certification or background preferred.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies such as Job Safety Analysis (JSA) or Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP) to ensure comprehensive EHS practices.
  • Experience in conducting EHS audits or inspections to identify and address potential safety hazards.
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR, demonstrating the ability to respond effectively to safety incidents requiring immediate medical attention.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting purposes.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal building code regulations with regard to safety, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and standards.
  • Familiarity with EHS management software or systems, facilitating efficient management of EHS programs and documentation.
  • Competency of all items required for Site EHS Managers and EHS Coordinators.
Work Environment
  • Mix of indoor office settings and outdoor construction sites.
  • Potential exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures.
  • Exposure to noise above 85 decibels and intense odors.
  • Exposure to areas with limited visibility.
  • Climbing up and down stairs and ladders to both get in and out of trenches and up to elevated platforms (scaffolding at significant heights).
  • Lifting necessary equipment and materials 1‑50 pounds, 50% of the time monthly for required tasks.
  • If driving is required, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurability is required. All drivers are subject to a DMV background records search.

This role requires compliance with all applicable safety regulations, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and Loenbro’s Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) policies.
