The group you’ll be a part of

The EHS Engineer provides technical leadership and support for environmental, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, chemical management, and process safety programs at Lam Research's Tualatin semiconductor manufacturing, R&D, and logistics campus. This role partners closely with engineering, facilities, manufacturing, laboratory operations, and business teams to identify risks, ensure regulatory compliance, drive continuous improvement, and support Lam's commitment to employee safety and environmental stewardship.

The EHS Engineer proactively evaluates operations, equipment, chemicals, and processes to prevent injuries, environmental impacts, and business interruptions while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and maintaining ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification.

What you'll do
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental, health, safety, and chemical management programs.
  • Evaluate equipment, processes, chemicals, and operational changes to identify EHS risks and ensure compliance through risk assessment and management of change (MOC) processes.
  • Support process safety activities including hazard assessments, HAZOP participation, process safety reviews, and implementation of risk reduction measures.
  • Provide technical guidance on environmental compliance, occupational safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials management, and chemical approvals.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and company requirements to ensure ongoing compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Analyze EHS performance data, trends, incidents, and audit results to identify improvement opportunities and establish program objectives and corrective actions.
  • Lead or support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) programs to prevent recurrence.
  • Partner with engineering, facilities, manufacturing, laboratory operations, and other stakeholders to ensure EHS requirements are incorporated into business processes and projects.
  • Conduct compliance assessments, inspections, audits, and program evaluations to verify effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide timely communication and escalation of significant EHS incidents, risks, and compliance concerns to site leadership and EHS management.
  • Support sustainability, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with business objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records, metrics, and documentation required for regulatory compliance and management system requirements.
What you'll do, continued
  • Serve as a trusted EHS advisor to operational and technical teams.
  • Influence and support site safety committees, risk reduction initiatives, and employee engagement activities.
  • Deliver EHS training, awareness programs, and technical guidance to employees and contractors.
  • Participate in site emergency response activities and maintain responder qualifications as required.
  • Support regulatory agency inspections, third-party audits, and customer assessments.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects supporting operational excellence and business growth.
Who we’re looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5+ years of EHS experience in semiconductor, manufacturing, industrial, laboratory, chemical, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance evaluations.
  • Demonstrated experience influencing operational improvements through technical expertise and partnership.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials, and regulatory compliance principles.
  • Ability to effectively assess risk and develop practical solutions in complex operational environments.
  • Experience applying process safety management concepts including hazard analysis, risk assessments, HAZOPs, layers of protection, and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to lead multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across all organizational levels.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and technical report preparation.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings, lead investigations, and drive action-oriented outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage conflict professionally and elevate issues appropriately when necessary.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and data analysis tools.
Preferred qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related technical field.
  • Experience supporting process safety management (PSM) or highly hazardous chemical operations.
  • Experience leading cross-functional compliance, engineering, or operational improvement projects.
  • Semiconductor manufacturing, cleanroom, research laboratory, or high-technology industry experience.
  • Experience supporting chemical management programs and hazardous materials operations.
  • Knowledge of Oregon OSHA, DEQ, EPA, NFPA, IFC/OFC, and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and auditing practices.
