Job summary

A well-established national law firm in Washington, DC is seeking a Patent Agent to join its Intellectual Property practice. This role blends patent preparation, prosecution, portfolio strategy, and technical analysis, with involvement in contested IP matters.

Candidates should have 3–5 years in EE/CS prep and prosecution, an advanced technical degree, and strong drafting skills. Competitive base salary ranges from $140,000 to $180,000 plus benefits and discretionary bonus.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of prep and prosecution experience in EE/CS.
• Advanced technical degree preferred.
• Strong patent drafting and prosecution experience.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute U.S. patent applications involving complex electrical, computer and software technologies.
• Conduct invention disclosure meetings and work directly with inventors and clients.
• Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions.
• Assist with domestic and international patent portfolio strategy.
• Analyze patents, prior art and technical materials.
• Support patent litigation matters, including technical research, claim analysis, validity and infringement issues.
