Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Enrollment in a degree/licensure program within six months of hire.
  • Must hold NM Level III Educational Assistant license or Substitute license.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional support under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher.
  • Assist a Mentor Teacher with program content and maintain open communication with both the Mentor Teacher and Program Director.
  • Consult and assist with the Mentor Teacher on a continuous basis regarding program content and progress of students.
  • Plan individualized targeted instruction to students in reading and math in small groups or 1-to-1 with the Mentor Teacher.
  • Provide individualized targeted instruction in reading and math in small groups or 1-to-1.
  • Consult with Mentor Teacher in tracking student progress, monitoring, and planning of interventions.
  • Maintain current and accurate records as required.
  • Complete micro courses and professional development series on topics including classroom management and high-intensity tutoring.
  • Develop strong relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Participate in regular coaching and feedback sessions.
  • Follow district and school procedures.
  • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the principal.

This is based on the recognition that more adults can better serve students with just-in-time remediation or targeted small-group instruction. The project will also provide an experiential entree into the education profession with funding and clearly established pathways for advancement.

This fellowship is ideal for individuals who enjoy interacting with youth in a school setting, have good communication skills, and who enjoy working with diverse populations experiencing a range of social needs. The fellowship will provide critical hands‑on experiences in the education arena and a solid foundation for those who are planning to enter the education profession. The ability to adapt is also valuable for this position, specifically someone who can respond in the moment/think on their feet, is able to work well with moderate amounts of ambiguity, and contributes well to ideas/creative thought.
Essential Functions

  • Provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher.
  • Assist a Mentor Teacher with program content and maintain open communication with both the Mentor Teacher and Program Director.
  • Consult and assist with the Mentor Teacher on a continuous basis regarding program content and progress of students.
  • Plan individualized targeted instruction to students in the areas of reading and math, either in a small group or 1 to 1 setting with the collaboration of the Mentor Teacher.
  • Provide individualized targeted instruction to students in the areas of reading and math either in a small group or 1 to 1 setting.
  • Consult with Mentor Teacher in tracking student progress, monitoring, and planning of interventions.
  • Maintain current and accurate records as required.
  • Complete micro courses and professional development series on various topics to include but not limited to classroom management, math intervention, reading intervention, high intensity tutoring strategies, and cultural and linguistically responsive teaching and learning.
  • Develop strong relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Participate in regular coaching and feedback session.
  • Follow district and school procedures
  • Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the principal
Qualifications: High School diploma or GED. AA degree, 45 college hours which include the necessary educational courses, or passing the Para Educator exam
Possess a Level III New Mexico Educational Assistant license and a Substitute license and any other qualifications as the Board deems appropriate
Enrolls in a minimum of six (6) credit hours no later than the semester following the date of hire, maintains good academic standing as defined by the institution of higher education, pursues coursework leading to an education-related degree and New Mexico educator licensure, and remains on track to graduate within six (6) calendar years, which is the maximum period of program participation.
Pursues a degree that prepares them to work with students in a role leading to state‑level education licensure
Physical Requirements: Ability to perform the job and access the environment for which you are hired. The following may be required: Sitting, standing, lifting, moving about the room or school, carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing, physical ability to type on a keyboard terminal, and moving light furniture.
Equipment/Technology Handled: Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
Work Environment: Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self‑motivated and able to complete job assignment without direct supervision. After hour work may be required.
Terms of Employment: Salary and work calendar established yearly by the district.
