Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking an Educational Interpreter/Transliterator in Morganton, NC, to facilitate communication for deaf or hard-of-hearing students in an educational setting. This role includes providing interpreting services in classes and school functions, maintaining confidentiality, and collaborating with teachers and staff. Candidates should possess a degree in Educational Interpreting and have competence in English and communication modalities relevant to deaf students. Additional training and a valid driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Competence in the communication modality used by the student who is deaf or hard of hearing.
• Competence in English grammar, including syntax, spelling, and punctuation.
• Strong interpersonal skills in relating to students and adults.
• Understanding of deafness and its impact on language development.
• Skill in expressive transliterating/interpreting.
• Ability to work as part of an IEP team.

Responsibilities

• Provide expressive and voice interpreting for students in classes.
• Assist in providing in-services regarding deaf culture and interpreting.
• Serve as a liaison among students, peers, and staff.
