Job summary

Warren County Board of Education is seeking a Paraprofessional in Special Education to assist students with disabilities under the supervision of teachers and administrators. The role encompasses helping with personal care, behavior support, and classroom activities to promote student learning and safety.

Ten-month position; salary and work year to be established by Board. Regular and punctual attendance is required, with the ability to lift and assist students as needed.

Qualifications

  • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education, an associate's degree or higher, or passed the ParaProfessional Assessment/Score of 456 or higher.
  • Demonstrate aptitude or competence for assigned duties.

Responsibilities

  • Attends to the personal needs of students with disabilities. This may include changing diapers or cleaning students with specific needs.
  • Assists students with disabilities with walking, feeding, boarding buses, fitting of prosthetic appliances, dressing, and performing other physical activities as the needs arise.
  • Provides clerical assistance to teachers.
  • Assists teachers with student management.
  • Sets up and operates learning/development equipment and materials.
  • Tutors students with disabilities.
  • Assumes responsibilities for understanding, knowing, and following the safety rules and proper procedures associated with the responsibilities of the job.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by teacher, principal, or director.

QUALIFICATIONS

JOB GOALS

  • To assist teachers in giving specialized academic, behavioral, and physical training to students with disabilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attends to the personal needs of students with disabilities. This may include changing diapers or cleaning students with specific needs.
  • Assists students with disabilities with walking, feeding, boarding buses, fitting of prosthetic appliances, dressing, and performing other physical activities as the needs arise.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting of objects that may exceed 40 pounds.
  • Carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Lifting of students that may weigh in excess of 100 pounds.
  • Other physical demands may be required as needed.

  • Specific capacities and abilities may be required in order to learn to perform a task or job duty adequately.
  • Ability to work with students with various disabilities.

  • Normal working environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Ten month year.
  • Salary and work year to be established by Board.

  • Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
