Job description

Description

This posting is to fill various Educational Assistant positions at the specified location. The authorized level of these positions is Educational Assistant III. Applications are also accepted down to Educational Assistant I in case of recruiting difficulties.

Salary Range
  • Educational Assistant I, SR-10: $3,019.78 per month
  • Educational Assistant II, SR-12: $3,260.76 per month
  • Educational Assistant III, SR-14: $3,526.98 per month
Examples of Duties
  • Independently performs various academic, instruction‑related support activities, tutors students, observes and reports on progress and difficulties.
  • Provides social, vocational, and daily living instruction to students with disabilities, observes progress, reports, and suggests modifications.
  • Performs counseling support activities, develops rapport, encourages expression, observes progress, and carries out approved activities promoting self‑concept and social skills.
  • Provides articulation reinforcement lessons and repetitive drills to correct or improve speech sounds as instructed by a speech pathologist; may receive training on typical speech/language disorders.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Requirements
  • High‑school graduation or equivalent plus one of the following: successful completion of an approved state assessment, at least 48 baccalaureate‑level semester credits (including 3 credits in mathematics and 3 credits in English), or an associate degree or higher.
Experience Requirements
  • Educational Assistant I: No minimum years of experience required.
  • Educational Assistant II: Minimum 1 year of general experience.
  • Educational Assistant III: Minimum 1 year of general experience and 1 year of specialized experience.
  • General experience: Paid or volunteer experience involving direct interaction, observation, evaluation, and reporting. Examples include committee service, youth advising, or participation in parent‑teacher meetings.
  • Specialized experience: Direct academic, personal, social, vocational, or behavioral services to students with disabilities in an educational setting.

One year of experience is defined as one school year of approximately 180 instructional days in Hawaii.

Additional Requirements

Some positions require possession of a current, valid driver’s license.

Some positions require the ability to lift and carry up to 65 pounds unassisted or 100 pounds with assistance.
