Job summary

The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) in Quincy, MA, is seeking a Field Representative-Organizer to help build strong locals and a powerful union through internal organizing, bargaining support, contract enforcement, and statewide campaigns.

The role guides local leaders and rank-and-file members, facilitates training, coordinates with regional teams, and engages with students, parents, and the community to advance social, racial, and economic justice in public education.

Qualifications

• Commitment to the mission and goals of the MTA.
• Experience as a union representative or organizer with organizing, representational work, contract enforcement, and campaigns.
• Understanding of dismantling systems of oppression to advance equity.
• Ability to listen and influence across multiple stakeholders and promote intercultural dialogue.
• Experience with democratized bargaining including open, coordinated, and coalition bargaining.

Responsibilities

• Support locals in internal organizing, membership recruitment and retention, and leadership development.
• Support locals in contract enforcement and representation.
• Support bargaining campaigns and link local issues to statewide campaigns.
• Develop and deliver union skills training to local leaders and activists.
• Engage locals in political and legislative activities and strengthen community ties.
• Assist with new unit organizing campaigns and evaluate service quality.
