Job summary

The Saint Louis Art Museum seeks an Associate Educator, Teacher and Student Learning to lead interdisciplinary programs for early childhood through college educators and students in alignment with SLAM’s educational philosophy.

Responsibilities include developing in-person and virtual programs, training staff and volunteers, and building collaborations with schools and cultural partners. The role requires strong leadership, budgeting, and outreach capabilities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in art history, art education, studio art, museum studies, or a related discipline.
• Three or more years of professional museum education and/or teaching experience with K-12 audiences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
• Demonstrated ability in object-based teaching and knowledge of diverse learning and teaching styles.
• Familiarity with current best practices in art, museum, and classroom education strategies.
• Proven ability to successfully handle several projects simultaneously and meet multiple deadlines.
• Capable of balancing strategic thinking and planning with ongoing program implementation and day-to-day administrative duties.
• Must be able to work collaboratively and proactively with diverse colleagues, collaborators, and audiences.
• Excellent public speaking and writing skills.
• Proficiency with virtual program delivery.

Responsibilities

• Define and articulate a strategy for engaging teachers and students aligned with departmental philosophy.
• Develop and implement the Museum’s strategy for increasing and enhancing student engagement.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate active in-person and virtual interdisciplinary programs and resources.
• Conceive and implement print and digital promotional materials and educational resources.
• Oversee training of Gallery Teachers and assist in training volunteers.
• Lead outreach to regional schools and build relationships with districts and partners.
• Develop Teacher Advisory Group and evaluation instruments; assess impact.
• Identify collaborations and partnerships with cultural organizations and community groups.
• Prepare and manage budgets for Teacher and Student Learning.
• Stay informed on best practices and develop innovative programs and partnerships.
• Supervise staff, on-call personnel, volunteers; hire teaching artists and presenters.
• Present programs, lead tours, and represent the Museum at conferences and school programs.
• Contribute to division-wide and departmental priorities and projects.
• Participate in cross-functional teams and museum-wide projects.
• Manage the Museum’s Student Gallery and plan exhibitions.
• Collaborate to promote Teacher and Student Learning offerings.
• Perform contracting, purchasing, scheduling, and special projects.
• Other duties as assigned.
