Job summary

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) is seeking a Governmental Relations Specialist to support its legislative and consultative work within the Governmental Relations Division in Austin. The role focuses on SBOE/SBEC liaison, policy analysis, and coordination with legislators, the Governor’s Office, and key TEA staff.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in state education policy, superb writing and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Public Administration, Public Affairs, Government, Public Policy, Education, or Communications degree fields.
• At least seven (7) years of professional experience, with at least 2 years in policymaking staff roles.
• An advanced degree may substitute for two years of required experience.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills.
• Knowledge of legislative processes and state government administration preferred.
• Ability to analyze issues, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to prioritize work and collaborate with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Support the Governmental Relations Division by handling legislative calls and requests in a timely manner.
• Serve as liaison to SBOE/SBEC and monitor public meetings to inform leadership.
• Develop external communications and collateral for meetings and presentations to stakeholders.
