Job summary

Sown To Grow is seeking a Data Scientist to build NLP/ML models that understand student and educator text, and to deploy production ML systems that scale to educational settings. You’ll partner with product and engineering to turn models into user-facing features and responsibly apply LLMs in classroom contexts.

You’ll own preprocessing, evaluation, and monitoring pipelines, with a focus on fairness, privacy, and practical impact for students across diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, ML, Math or related field.
• 2+ years as Data Scientist/ML Engineer/ Data Engineer solving real-world ML problems.
• Strong Python and ML stack (pandas, numpy, scikit-learn; PyTorch or TensorFlow).
• Experience with NLP on text data and deploying ML solutions.
• Understanding of ML lifecycle: data, training, validation, deployment, monitoring, retraining.
• Familiarity with LLMs, prompting, evaluation, RAG or agentic patterns.

Responsibilities

• Build and refine NLP/ML models over large volumes of unstructured text.
• Partner with data science, product, and engineering to improve product via ML/NLP.
• Extend models to new prompts, younger students, broader accessibility while preserving accuracy.
• Design and apply LLMs responsibly for teacher-response suggestions and resource recommendations.
• Build validation, monitoring, and retraining pipelines with the ML engineering team.
• Preprocess data and create reproducible feature/evaluation workflows.
