Job summary

The School Board of Broward County, Florida invites an Assistant General Counsel to provide legal services for all departments and offices within the district. The role includes representing the School Board in litigation and assisting with drafting and reviewing policies, contracts, and documents.

You will render legal opinions, perform legal research, and coordinate investigations of claims. Compliance with equal employment policies and ongoing training are required.

Qualifications

• Admission to the Florida Bar.
• Computer skills as required for the position.
• An earned degree from an accredited law school.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in professional legal work preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional legal services for all departments, divisions and offices of the School District.
• Represent the School Board in litigation brought by or against the School District.
• Assist in drafting and/or reviewing Board policies, contracts and documents.
• Assist in rendering legal opinions.
• Perform or direct legal research.
• Coordinate and direct investigations of claims and complaints by or against the School Board.
• Assist in the acquisition of land for the School Board through negotiation or condemnation proceedings.
• Ensure adherence to equal employment and non-discrimination policies.
• Participate in training programs to enhance job-related skills.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
