Job summary

Memphis Shelby County Schools seeks a dedicated Paraprofessional to support classroom instruction and student supervision. The role involves assisting teachers, preparing materials, and helping create a well-organized learning environment.

You will help reinforce lessons, supervise students in various areas of the school, and coordinate special projects as needed. CPR and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain them is required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 2 years of college (48 semester hours) required.
• Passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test.
• Experience with children in an educational setting preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certification required or able to obtain.

Purpose and Scope

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

Perform specialized work by assisting school teachers in instructing and supervising the activities of students to provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning classroom environment. The position is responsible for assisting assigned teachers in preparing instructional materials, preparing classrooms for activities, supervising and assisting children in the classroom and in other areas of the school, reinforcing classroom lessons, and providing other assistance as requested; incumbents may be responsible for providing assistance to special needs students or coordinating special projects and programs as assigned. The position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree, or two (2) years of college (minimum of 48 semester hours) from an, or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment Test and one (1) year of experience working with children in an educational setting preferred. Must possess or be able to obtain certification in CPR and First Aid. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED)

Degree Equivalency Formula:

Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.

Master’s Degree=6 years plus required years of experience.
