Job summary

Chromalloy is seeking an EDM Machine Operator Team Lead to support the safe, efficient operation of the EDM machining area. This hands-on leadership role coordinates daily production, guides team performance, and ensures work meets engineering specs, quality standards, and schedules.

As a working team lead, you perform EDM operations while providing direction and technical guidance on your shift. You help drive safety, quality and continuous improvement, with strong focus on 5S/6S and adherence

Job Summary

We're seeking an EDM Machine Operator Team Lead to support the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of our EDM machining area. This hands‑on leadership role is responsible for coordinating daily production activities, supporting team performance, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and production schedules.

As a working team lead, you will actively perform EDM machining operations while providing day‑to‑day direction, technical guidance, and support to employees on your assigned shift. This role plays a critical part in maintaining safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement within the department.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Set up, operate, and monitor EDM equipment, including sinker EDM and EDM machining centers.
• Lead daily production activities and help ensure scheduled work is completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
• Communicate production priorities, department performance, and operational issues to supervisors and team members.
• Load and verify programs, install tooling and fixtures, and verify machine setup before production begins.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues to minimize downtime and maintain throughput.
• Produce parts in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications.
• Perform inspections using precision measuring equipment and verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish requirements.
• Identify and document nonconforming conditions and support corrective actions.
• Maintain production records and traceability documentation.
• Support employee training, coaching, and cross‑training activities.
• Participate in root cause investigations, TPM activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment aligned with 5S/6S standards.
• Support compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, customer, and company requirements.
• Serve as a technical resource and escalation point for operators on the shift.

What We’re Looking For

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Experience setting up and operating EDM equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, operation sheets, and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and inspection equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Working knowledge of EDM machining principles, machine setup, and process optimization.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while supporting team performance and production objectives.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Nice to Have

• 3+ years of EDM machining experience.
• Previous team lead, trainer, or informal leadership experience.
• Aerospace manufacturing experience.
• Experience with sinker EDM and wire EDM processes.
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
• CNC machining experience.
• Tooling, fixture setup, and workholding experience.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
• Lean manufacturing, operational excellence, or continuous improvement experience.
• Familiarity with AS9100, NADCAP, and aerospace quality standards.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Manufacturing environment with exposure to machining equipment, oils, coolants, noise, and metalworking processes.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, and repetitive hand movements.
• Ability to handle tooling, fixtures, and machined components throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to safely operate industrial manufacturing equipment.
• Visual acuity sufficient to inspect precision components and read measuring instruments.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and other required safety equipment.

This position may require work hours outside of the regularly scheduled hours to meet operational needs. This may include work during evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Additional work hours are assigned based on business requirements. Non‑exempt employees will be paid overtime in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

The salary range for this position reflects a broad spectrum of experience levels. Individual compensation within the range is determined by multiple factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, job related skills, internal equity, and market conditions. We evaluate each candidate individually to ensure fair and competitive pay decisions.
