Job summary

ROUTE Magazine is seeking an Editorial Intern to contribute to producing engaging pop culture stories across print and digital platforms. You will assist with research, write articles, manage social media, and help develop multimedia content in a lively newsroom environment.

Hours are 15-20 per week with a $150 monthly stipend. Ideal candidates are journalism students or recent grads with strong storytelling, AP style familiarity, and a passion for media.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a journalism, communications, media production or related program or recent graduate.
• Demonstrated experience in content writing, journalism or digital storytelling through coursework or professional projects.
• Familiarity with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and/or TikTok for content sharing and engagement.
• Basic knowledge of video production techniques including videography and video editing would be a bonus but not required.
• Strong written communication skills with an eye for detail; experience with AP style preferred.
• Experience with research methods, fact-checking processes, and journalistic ethics is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Assist in researching and fact-checking of articles following AP style guidelines.
• Write short articles and stories for both print and digital platforms.
• Contribute to social media management by creating engaging posts, monitoring platform engagement, and analyzing content performance.
• Help with story development by brainstorming ideas, conducting interviews, and gathering multimedia assets such as photography.
• Transcription of celebrity interviews.
• Proofread articles to ensure clarity, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic standards before an issue goes to print.
• Online research as assigned.
