Job summary

U.S. News & World Report is seeking a consultant to expand consumer surveys used in editorial content and for co-branded surveys with advertising clients.

You will guide topic creation, question design, and responses, ensuring data integrity and statistical soundness while coordinating with editorial and PR teams. You will oversee survey builds, execution, and analysis, evaluate third-party vendors, and manage invoices.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience creating survey methodologies, writing questionnaires, and analyzing data sets.
  • Experience using survey platforms to build and deploy surveys.
  • Strong statistical analysis skills to interpret data.
  • Data management and summary skills for data visualizations and fact sheets.
  • Experience managing multiple survey projects concurrently.
  • Experience translating statistical results to PR, editorial, stakeholders and clients.
  • Experience working with survey vendors and acting as point person on invoices, projects, etc.

Your role in helping us shape the future:

U.S. News empowers everyone to thrive. In this position, you will help guide our expansion of consumer surveys to be used in editorial content, unique, data-driven stories and social media promotion. This role will also help us explore expanding co-branded surveys on behalf of our advertising clients.

You’ll work closely with the executive editor, vertical managing editors, PR managers and advertising sales teams on crafting survey topics, questions and responses, reviewing surveys made by our editorial teams, ensuring data integrity, and helping create co-branded surveys. You will direct and oversee survey builds, execution and analysis. You will also help us evaluate third‑party survey vendors, pricing and budgeting.

Are you up to the challenge?

You should be a survey expert who knows how to write survey questions, craft unbiased, neutral multiple choice responses, and determine a statistically significant number of responses. As part of the job, you’ll:

Work with editorial teams to review and help create surveys to be used in content creation and promotion efforts.

Work with PR and editorial teams to determine survey topics that will drive high-quality external backlinks and editorial coverage, as well as brand awareness, social engagement, and new traffic sources.

Help editorial and PR teams determine best cadence and volume of surveys to create timely, engaging survey results on a regular basis while avoiding oversaturating the market.

Evaluate third‑party survey vendors to determine the best fit for our needs.

Work with survey vendor(s) on cost, volume and execution.

Act as the point of contact for the survey vendor on data verification of responses, ensuring respondents are filtered appropriately and data is statistically sound.

Partner with our ad sales team to help create co‑branded surveys for clients that target specific audience segments.

Evaluate subscription/pay B2B survey opportunities in our health, education and money areas.

Position Requirements
You should definitely have:
  • Minimum 5 years’ of professional experience creating survey methodologies, writing questionnaires, and analyzing data sets

It would be nice if you had:
  • Prior experience helping create surveys for a consumer audience

  • Experience using Google Gemini and/or other comparable AI tools

  • The anticipated consulting pay range is $5,000 - $7,900 per month.
