Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Senior SW Engineer Principal (Edifecs Application Engineer) to administer, configure, and enhance the Edifecs platform for reliable EDI processing. This is a 100% remote role, supporting Edifecs XEServer, XEngine, TPM, and SpecBuilder.

You will optimize processing rules, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps, and cloud teams. A strong background in Edifecs, AWS, and healthcare/EDI is required.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical discipline preferred.
• EDIFECs certification is required or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 8 years of Edifecs product experience in EDI/healthcare/enterprise operations.

Job Description

• Configure and maintain XEServer, XEngine, TPM, SpecBuilder, and related modules.
• Build, deploy, and optimize Edifecs processing rules, routing logic, and batch workflows.
• Analyze and resolve mapping issues, validation failures, functional errors, and performance bottlenecks.
• Manage system logging, JVM tuning, and certificate/keystore configurations.
• Support release deployments, environment refreshes, patching, and upgrades.
• Collaborate with EDI Analysts, DevSecOps Engineers, cloud teams, and business teams.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical disciplinerequired; equivalent practical experience considered.
• EDIFECS certification.

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of Edifecs product experience in EDI, healthcare, or enterprise application operations.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in software or data engineering with strong AWS experience.
• Strong knowledge of Edifecs architecture and transaction lifecycles.
• Strong experience in AWS cloud environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Requirements

Core Technical

• Deep hands-on Edifecs experience in EDI X12 Transactions Standards involving key X12 workflows with 270/271, 278, 834, 837, 835, 999 and other X12 transactions.
• Hands-on understanding of the platform architecture and operational behaviors across the following:
  • Edifecs XEServer (orchestrations, batch flows, execution contexts)
  • XEngine (validation, rulesets, canonical structures)
  • TPM (trading partner configuration, routes, agreements)
  • EDI Gateway (visibility, audit, search, reprocessing)
  • SpecBuilder (IG definitions, map development)
• Experience with EDI integration and Interface Management of all technical aspects of inbound/outbound connectivity, consistent with the following:
  • AS2, SFTP, FTPS, HTTPS channels
  • API-based integrations and gateway services
• Experience with EDI troubleshooting providing root-cause analysis of transaction failuresmapping/misalignment defects, partner-specific rejection patterns, batch job flow failures, and throughput/performance degradation.
• Experience with job throughput optimization, engine performance tuning, JVM tuning and memory management, high availability and failover orchestration, and monitoring dashboards for proactive detection.
• Understanding AWS EC2 instance sizing, OS tuning, storage I/O patterns, file transfer endpoints, routing, firewall coordination, network path debugging, SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management.
• Proficient with Git and GitHub — branching strategies, pull requests, collaborative workflows.
• Compliance, audit, and partner governance knowledge.
• Infrastructure as code experience (Ansible, Terraform)

Process & Soft Skills

• Strong ability to communicate technical architecture decisions and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience gathering and translating business reporting requirements into technical data models.
• Comfortable driving ambiguous architecture decisions to resolution with limited direction.
• Experience with agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and JIRA.
• Strong documentation habits — architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, migration runbooks.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements in cloud data architecture
• Experience with healthcare payer/PBM systems, clearinghouses, or pharmacy operations.
• AWS certification is a bonus.

US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain andmaintaina Public Trust clearance.

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
