Source is hiring a Database Engine Engineer (Rust) to build a Rust-native engine for edge environments. You will influence architecture, storage layout, query execution, and memory management for constrained hardware.

You’ll work with CTO and DefraDB team to ensure cross‑language protocol compatibility and feature parity where needed. This is foundational work with long-term impact on edge data infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in Rust and ownership model.
• Experience building database internals, storage engines, or distributed systems.
• Familiarity with CRDTs, replication, and consistency models.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement core database engine components in Rust.
• Design memory-safe, zero-copy data paths for constrained hardware.
• Implement CRDT-based replication and peer-to-peer synchronization.
• Build and optimize indexing structures with Rust ownership in mind.
• Design concurrency and async I/O strategies to avoid data races.
