Job summary

Summit Healthcare in Show Low, AZ is seeking an EDT/Health Unit Coordinator role to provide safe, compassionate patient care under nursing and physician direction. You will perform essential clinical support tasks, document care, and assist with procedures in a busy hospital setting.

Qualified candidates will have basic computer skills, English fluency, and appropriate certifications within stated timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Knowledge of hospital equipment and programs is required.
  • Experience in acute care settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic patient care, including vital signs, hygiene, mobility assistance, and supportive care.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges under supervision.
  • Document patient care accurately in the patient record.
  • Assist with procedures and setup for nursing and medical staff.
  • Operate and maintain patient safety with alarms, identification, and HIPAA compliance.
  • Participate in education and departmental meetings as required.
  • Perform direct observer and sitter duties and transport patients as needed.
  • Demonstrate SHINE Behavior Standards in daily work.

Job description

General Position Summary

Responsible for providing safe, emotionally supportive, and individualized care for patients under the direction of nursing staff and medical providers.

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities
  • Provides basic patient care, including vital signs, hygiene (bathing and oral care), positioning, toileting, linen changes, ambulation, range of motion, nutritional and hydration support, collecting lab specimens, placement of telemetry leads.
  • Promotes a safe patient environment: clutter-free, bed alarms, armband checks, etc.
  • Competent in point of care testing
  • Competent to place, immobilizers, slings, and Velcro splints
  • Demonstrates use of crutches and walkers to patients
  • Assist with spinal motion restriction
  • Competent to insert straight and indwelling urinary catheters for adult patients
  • Competent to instill enema
  • Competent to perform Peripheral Phlebotomy
  • Assists the nurse in admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
  • Orient patients and families to patient rooms, patient activities, and hospital policies.
  • Documents patient care provided.
  • Responsible to perform Direct Observer and Sitter duties as needed.
  • Set up and assist nurses and providers with procedures such as sutures, chest tubes, lumbar punctures, pelvic exams, central lines, and chest tubes.
  • Setup and apply patient temperature control devices/equipment for patients.
  • Assists with post-mortem care
  • Competent to perform 12 lead EKG
  • Complete competencies as Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
  • Respond to rapid response in ancillary departments to assist with CPR, etc.
  • Provides interdepartmental transport as requested for non-cardiac monitored patients.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Health Unit Coordinator with duties as needed.
  • Communicates information to Nursing and medical staff.
  • Participates in educational offerings staff meetings, and other departmental/association wide meetings.
  • Displays professional behaviors that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.
EDT Advanced

After completing at least six months of experience as an EDT or two months as a CNA/LNA and completing all EDT requirements, an EDT will be considered for advancement to an EDT Advanced when competent to perform these additional tasks:

  • Complete competencies in fiberglass and plaster splinting

Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities

This position requires the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience to perform in a diversified acute care setting.

This position requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems and department specific equipment.

This position requires basic computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Education and/or Experience
  • *** - Completion of training course required within 12 months of hire date.
  • # - Certification required within six months of hire date
  • % - Certification required within 30 days of hire date.
Physical Demands & Job Conditions

Exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects. The worker is subject to contact with hazardous chemicals, contact with infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, and encounters with upset/disturbed individuals.

Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, stooping, crawling, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.

This is considered a safety-sensitive position.
