Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the ED Tech performs delegated tasks and assists the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide care to patients in the emergency department.

Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Cares for patients as delegated by the registered nurse and completes all activities of daily living for assigned patients.
  • Reports all unusual patient observations or reactions to the nurse or charge nurse.
  • Collects specimens, measures, and records intake/output including Foley catheter.
  • Provides personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.
  • Performs clinical procedures independently or under supervision.
  • Assists with patient nutrition, including ordering room service, setting up meals, and feeding as required.
  • Supports safety culture and carries out safety interventions.
  • Adheres to infection control policies, cleans equipment, and maintains a sterile environment.
  • Assists with orientation of new ED technicians.
  • Helps transport patients between departments safely.
  • Performs point of care testing and communicates results.
  • Performs phlebotomy under delegation and with provider order.
  • Prepares patient rooms, assists with early mobility, answers calls, performs wound care and dressings, and other unit activities.
  • Maintains supplies and inventory, performs BLS CPR, and supports external device applications.
  • Performs continuous safety monitoring for behavioral health patients.
  • Completes mandatory education and participates in trauma and stroke response teams.
  • Follows organizational policies and maintains confidentiality and professionalism.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training as Nursing Assistant or EMT preferred.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification required; Nursing Assistant or EMT-Basic certification preferred.
  • Basic reading, writing, math, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills.
  • One to three years of related experience preferred.
