Job summary

Bay Area Hospital in Fort Bridger, WY is seeking an Emergency Department Technician to provide direct patient care under supervision in the ED. This part-time position offers a pay range of $21.38–$31.73 USD per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

The role includes assisting ED providers, monitoring vital signs, starting IVs, phlebotomy, EKG, wound care, dressing applications, and keeping the department clean and stocked. Strong communication in English is required.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required.
• Workplace violence training required or within 90 days grace period.
• EMT Basic certification or CNA2 in Oregon/Northwest region preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care under RN/Physician supervision in the ED.
• Promotes patient safety and monitors vital signs.
• Assists with procedures and treatments and prepares wounds.
• Maintains clean, stocked ED and transports patients as needed.
• Participates in continuing education and staff meetings.

Emergency Dept Technician

Performs direct patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician in the Emergency Department within his/her scope of practice.

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs direct patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician in the Emergency Department within his/her scope of practice.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promotes positive customer relations with internal and external customers
• Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Provides support to ED providers and/or private physician with procedures and treatments as requested
• Coordinates patient care with professional support staff
• Performs delegated patient care tasks as assigned by the RN and physician
• Monitors patient vital signs and notifies the RN or physician if they change
• Prepares wounds for suturing
• Applies dressings when directed by professional staff
• Measures and applies OrthoGlass Splints, utilizes OrthoGlass references manual
• Start IVs and obtain blood work as directed by an RN or ED provider
• Performs phlebotomy tasks
• Performs waived point of care testing as ordered
• Performs 12 lead EKG
• Transports patients to assigned units as appropriate
• Assists patients at time of discharge from the department, whether patient is being admitted to a floor or discharge for release
• Ensures the department is neat and well stocked
• Upon patient release from the department, assists with cleaning the room by wiping the bed down, changing linens, emptying the trash, straightening furniture, and stocking the room with necessary supplies/equipment
• Participates in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences to maintain professional competence
• Attends a minimum of 75% of the department staff meetings
• Participates in achievement of the facility, department, personal and professional objectives
• Participates in performance improvement activities to improve care, processes, and customer service excellence
• Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES

• American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Organization approved workplace violence training required or obtained by the last day of the month after 90 day grace period.
• EMT Basic certification, recent Emergency Department Technician, current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant 2 in the State of Oregon, completion of second term Nursing Curriculum, or paramedic experience (within the last two years) preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required

EXPERIENCE

• Recent (within past two years) hospital experience preferred
• Phlebotomy experience preferred
