Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Emergency Department. The APP will evaluate ED patients, develop treatment plans, and coordinate care under a collaborative practice agreement.

Education and documentation responsibilities are essential to meet regulatory standards. Preferred candidates have NP or PA qualifications, advanced certifications, and prior APRN/PA experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing with NP focus or Doctor of Nursing Practice.
• Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant studies.
• Active APRN or PA certification and eligibility to practice in KS/MO.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate ED patients and determine appropriate consultations.
• Provide patient/family education on preventive care and treatment plans.
• Document evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, and referrals per standards.
• Support quality improvement efforts and adhere to regulatory protocols.
• Coordinate care with ED team and supervising physician.

## Position Summary / Career Interest:The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Emergency Department (ED) manages health problems and coordinates health care in the ED setting. These APPs deliver patient care and medical services to individuals, families and groups by utilizing standards of care in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations to assess health status, diagnose medical conditions, develop medical plan of care, implement treatments and evaluate patient responses in collaboration with collaborative/sponsoring physician as described in a Collaborative Practice Agreement.**Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions*** Able to evaluate medical problems of patients who present to the ED and appropriately requests consultation of other specialties when indicated.* Provides education to patients and/or families about preventive care, medical issues and use of prescribed medical treatments and/or medications.* Creates diagnostically appropriate treatment plans* Documents all medical evaluation, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals and consultations consistent with NCQA, The Joint Commission, state regulatory standards and evidenced-based standards of care.* Maintains documentation compliance for appropriate coding and billing.* Facilitates evaluation of records by physician(s), peers and quality standards according to protocols and receives and implements constructive directives.* May refer complex and high priority cases to collaborating physician with regards to complicated diagnostic problems, serious illness, complicated therapeutic problems and re-evaluation of chronic conditions.* Provides medical and emergency interventions appropriate to the client’s needs; prescribes and monitors medications appropriate to the diagnosis; orders and monitors the appropriateness of emergency interventions.* Maintains collegiality with all members of the inter-disciplinary team* Utilizes appropriate chain-of-command and communicates with ED Program Director, APP Director and Medical Director of any clinical issue and contributes to quality improvement or process improvement as necessary.* Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.* These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. OR* Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) - State Board of Healing Arts for State of Kansas and Missouri (depending on practice locations). OR* Advanced practice certification required.
