Job summary

The Jefferson Health system in Philadelphia seeks an Assistant Nurse Manager to partner with the nurse manager in overseeing patient care and nursing services on their assigned unit and shift.

You will lead daily operations, mentor staff, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance care standards, while supporting Magnet and Shared Governance initiatives and participating in staff recruitment and evaluation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; Master’s degree preferred.
• Current RN licensure in the state of practice; BLS per organizational guidelines; ACLS/PALS as required.
• 2+ years acute care experience; leadership/management potential; certification in specialty preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide oversight for patient care and nursing services on assigned unit and shift.
• Lead daily operations of the unit and coordinate patient care delivery and flow.
• Act as a resource, lead, and clinical role model for the patient care team.
• Collaborate with the nurse manager and multidisciplinary team to ensure effective operations.
• Participate in hiring and evaluation of staff; mentor colleagues on Clinical Ladder and Magnet.

Job Description

With a commitment to patient- and family-centered care, the assistant nurse manager works with the nurse manager and provides oversight for patient care and nursing services on their assigned unit and shift. They promote quality evidence-based care and patient satisfaction in a fiscally responsive manner. The assistant nurse manager collaborates with the nurse manager in assessment and planning for nursing care. She/he assists in leading the daily operations of the unit. Acts as a resource, lead, and clinical role model for the patient care team. Advances and oversees patient care standards of the unit for the designated shift. Facilitates and coordinates patient care delivery and flow through the continuum of care. She/he carries out the responsibilities of the nurse manager in her/his absence with guidance from the Administrative Director. The Assistant Nurse Manager participates in hiring and evaluation of staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective operations of the nursing unit. She/he supports nursing professional development, Magnet, and Shared Governance through participation in, and mentoring of colleagues, on councils and the Clinical Ladder program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in nursing required; Master’s degree preferred. Professional/leadership certification preferred (for example CCRN, CEN, NE-BC, other) within 2 years of hire and Experience: 2+ years acute care experience required; experience in a similar or ‘like’ unit is preferred: demonstrated leadership and management potential.

Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice; BLS required based on organizational guidelines/polices. ACLS and PALS as required by department. Certification in specialty preferred. If Certification is required on a specific unit; certification must be obtained within six months of hire date.
