Job summary

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP), located in Durham, North Carolina, offers a research opportunity managed by ORAU/ORISE. The appointment is full-time and open to U.S.

citizens or LPRs, with a December 8, 2026 start date and an initial one-year term that can renew for several years. Responsibilities include literature reviews, data analysis of omics data, and applying machine learning to identify biomarkers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, (eco)toxicology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, chemistry, statistics, computer science or a related field.
• Degree must have been received within the past five years.
• Strong interdisciplinary knowledge spanning statistics, biology, (eco)toxicology, and computer science.

Responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews and hypothesis-driven studies to establish links between molecular perturbations and adverse effects.
• Develop and run data analysis pipelines for omics data (NGS, transcriptomics, metabolomics).
• Document data analysis methods in electronic lab notebooks and GitHub repositories.
• Apply machine learning to identify biomarkers and classify toxicants; model dose responses.
• Summarize literature and disseminate results to project partners and the research community.
