US Department of Energy Headquarters seeks an Economist to lead broad economic analyses across energy markets and policy areas. You will design, program, and guide large projects, translating complex results for top leadership and stakeholders.
The role requires meeting the basic economics education requirements and specialized experience. Candidates should be prepared to work on-site within the department's Albany, Oregon operations and collaborate across offices.
This position is part of the Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office, Department of Energy. As an Economist, you will perform a broad range of professional economics work, which involves the formulation, programming and guidance of a very large, or two or more large, economic analysis projects, or continuing programs.
You must meet both the Basic Requirement and the Specialized Experience to qualify for this series as described below.
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of 3 of the following:

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
