Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an Ecological Risk Assessor to support our Federal Environmental Team from one of our offices, including Atlanta, GA and other locations. You will collaborate with the risk assessment team to plan and execute projects and engage in public outreach and stakeholder communication.

The successful candidate will bring extensive experience in ecological risk assessment, CERCLA guidance, and demonstrated client interactions to support site decision making and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in ecological risk assessments with increasing project complexity.
• Extensive knowledge of ecological risk assessment principles and USEPA CERCLA guidance.
• Proven interactions with private sector and governmental clients.
• Experience with risk assessments for risk-based remedial actions and regulatory decisions.
• Experience in scoping, managing, and conducting CERCLA process risk components.
• Strong risk communication with clients, regulators, and conferences.

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Ecological Risk Assessor with the potential to work out of any of our WSP offices, which may include Atlanta, GA; Kansas City, MO; Gainesville, FL; Valhalla, NY; Morristown, NJ; Buffalo, NY or Boston MA . Be involved in projects with our Federal Environmental Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

The successful candidate will collaborate with our current team of risk assessment team members to support our growing risk assessment and toxicology practice in project planning and execution as well as public outreach and stakeholder communication. Risk assessments will be prepared to meet the requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and many States’ environmental regulatory programs.

The position will involve coordination and implementation of project work associated with multimedia (air, water, and soil) risk assessments and environmental regulatory compliance in the industrial/commercial and government sectors as well as project management.

Your Impact

• Direct and supervise technical assignments and manages entire projects or specific elements of projects;

• Perform as lead ecological risk assessor authoring proposals and projects;

• Extensive client and regulator interaction, particularly with scoping of ecological risk assessments and application of the risk assessment results and conclusions in site decision-making;

• Provide technical review for projects to comply with environmental regulations, company standards, contract requirements, and related specifications; and

• Occasionally travel for projects, conferences, business development, or training.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.

• 7+ years of relevant experience in conducting, authoring, directing, and performing technical review of multi-media ecological risk assessments with increasing levels of project complexity and responsibility

• Extensive hands-on knowledge of ecological risk assessment principles, procedures, and guidance particularly USEPA CERCLA

• Demonstrated successful interactions across a range of private sector and governmental clients

• Performance and technical review of multi-media screening level and baseline ecological risk assessments for common and emerging contaminants

• Completion of projects through feasibility studies and Records of Decision (including identifying risk-based remedial goals)

• Extensive experience in scoping, managing, and conducting ecological risk assessment components for each of the stages of the CERCLA process including:

• Development of work plans and QAPPs (including evaluating sampling strategies and appropriateness of data for risk assessment)

• Experience with risk communication with clients and stakeholders, and at conferences and professional organizations including presenting complex technical information in a concise and accurate manner

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.

• Experience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $88,100 - $145,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $88,100 – $134,000
