Qualifications

  • Experience managing projects, budgets, and client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage ecological and environmental permitting projects from proposal through final delivery.
  • Lead wetland and stream delineations, habitat assessments, and natural resource evaluations.
  • Oversee federal, state, and local permitting efforts for infrastructure and development projects.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, environmental documentation, and permit applications.
  • Coordinate with agencies including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, EPA, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
  • Provide technical guidance on Clean Water Act Section 401/404 permitting and environmental compliance strategies.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and client expectations across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, planners, and environmental scientists on interdisciplinary projects.
  • Support business development initiatives through proposal preparation, client meetings, and relationship building.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to the growth of the environmental practice.
  • Maintain strong relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities for new work.

Position Overview

The Environmental Project Leader will play a key role in managing ecological and permitting projects across Ohio and surrounding states. This position offers a blend of technical leadership, project management, client development, and regulatory coordination.

The ideal candidate will have experience leading environmental permitting efforts, managing ecological field programs, and working directly with agency stakeholders. This individual will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while helping clients successfully navigate environmental compliance requirements and project approvals.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental consulting, ecological services, natural resources, or permitting
  • Experience conducting wetland delineations, stream assessments, habitat evaluations, or related field studies
  • Strong understanding of federal and state environmental permitting processes
  • Experience managing projects, budgets, and client relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively with regulators, clients, and internal project teams
  • Strong technical writing and project coordination skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting linear infrastructure projects such as pipelines, transmission lines, transportation corridors, or renewable energy developments
  • Familiarity with NEPA requirements and environmental impact assessments
  • Experience working with agencies responsible for energy, utility, and infrastructure permitting
  • Technical expertise related to threatened and endangered species, wetlands, streams, or ecological restoration
  • Demonstrated success developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Previous experience mentoring staff or serving as a technical lead
